I have this feature on my 2007 Jeep Cherokee Limited (Hemi). I can start it remotely using the key thing, but it doesn't do the proximity unlock (need to unlock by pushing the button on the key thing).
It's not the same feature. You are talking about Remote Start which starts the vehicle remotely. You also have an ignition key (which was eliminated on most 2008 models and replaced by an electronic "key" that inserts into an ignition slot in the dash). The new feature is called "Keyless-Go" and features a button on the dash instead of an ignition slot. Keyless-Go/Proximity entry will be available on the 2009 R/T and 2008-2009 SRT Challengers, in fact I am pretty sure it will be Standard. It will also be available on many 2009 Chrysler vehicles including the Grand Cherokee and Commander. Like most Chrysler vehicles now, the new Challengers will also offer Remote Start.

Awsure, you are correct, this is all just rumors but like the grocery store rags such as the star, they can be fun to read...
Call 'em what you want but you're going to find out that the info I have posted along the way and info from Allpar is going to turn out to be incredibly accurate.

On the jalopnik site, it was rumored that 45,000 Challengers will be built in 2009 (we previously heard 30,000)- 40,000 will be R/T and SXT models and 5,000 SRTs. Also, the Challenger R/T is supposed to get all of the color options and a shaker hood!!

All I care about is whether they are making just the convertible for the R/T or whether they will also make a convertible SRT. Oh, and if there is a 6.4 litre on the way. I keep hearing no convertible SRT and only R/T which gets me hot and bothered and works me into a lather. I know most do not care, but that is my %^&^$# dream car with a shaker hood of course).

Shaker hood! I really hope so. I'd be all over that.

A reputable source says that the interior for 2009 will be black only; the seats in the R/T and the base model are the same(offered in both cloth and leather); the cluster trim panels and center stack trim have been updated; R/T models have Hemi badging on the side of the hood; a few R/Ts have round exhaust pipes; and the manual shifter has a pistol-grip design.

Also, the first 2009s will apparently be built on April 14.

Cuda, I don't think they will go into production prior to the 08's. 08's are still in C status, they are only scheduled for production. They will need a vin # prior to production. The 08's are probably scheduled to start sometime in april I'm sure.

On allpar today (March 12), a Brampton factory worker posted that 4 Challengers came down the line- 2 sticks and 2 autos. This might confirm the fact that Dodge will start making the 2009s starting on April 14.
