The auction was for the amount over MSRP you would pay. Someone did the buy it now option. I hope that guy enjoys his 6 months of exclusivity before they start being mass produced! Hope it was worth 20 grand to him! I guess if I had just won the lottery I would've bought it too. . .

It's his money. I wouldn't; but either:
1. He has enough to where he doesn't care
or
2. He just doesn't care.
Hope he enjoys his car; sincerely.

Good for him. I wouldn't do it, but it's not my money. MSRP is the most I'd pay. I think after it's been widely available for 12 months that they will go for $2K under MSRP. Look at the PT Cruiser and all the SRT8's for recent history. Camaros will be coming out soon after the Challenger's and that will put a downward pressure on pricing as well. Then 2010 sees a new Mustang.

This first year edition does have the potential to hold it's value well. Limited to 5000 copies and may be one year only colors. They are a top of the line edition with the SRT8 and 6.1 Hemi. The next batch will be much more common. Looks like Chrysler is trying to do what Ford did with the GT500: Create an instant collectible. Expect to hear that line of fluff from the dealers. Kudos to the dealers who sell at MSRP, but I don't blame them for trying to get ADMs. They've had to sell Calibers, Caravans, and Avengers at invoice for some time.

That is exactly why I started a post "Planning for Your Financial Future and the Challenger" back on June 2006 and saving for a challenger :
https://dodgechallenger.com/forums/fb.asp?m=3980
I bet maybe 10% of the people on the forum took me seriously and started saving.

Yeah but that's an auction. . . they know full well they'll get way over that, and there's probably a reserve anyway. My guess. . . in 6 days when the auction ends it'll be over $60,000.
