I refer to the long block "as dyno'd" from the factory, with no mods.

I keep reading about, only 50 more hp. Lets put this figure into perspective. To begin with it is 55 hp, which is a 15% increase over the the 5.7L. You will have to spend many thousands to see this type of increase. Also, any major engine mods to improve the HP rating will definately void the highly touted warranty.

I am assuming most of us have improved engines in the past. I know I have. Now lets be honest, those engines took constant work to keep them running for a daily or weekend driver. Even modern engines are designed for the parts they come with, if you change something you will eventually have problems.

It appears that some RT buyers want to save money, just to go out and spend money! I dont get it? Also, the rest of the car is not even close to being the same. If you cant or dont want to afford the SRT, thats fine. Just please stop trying to indicate that those of us that can are doing something wrong.

The 5.7L is a great engine, but the SRT is the total package and imo a much better bargain.

By the way, I have the 5.7L in my Charger and I have also driven a 6.1L. They are not even close! Period.

Good Luck,

Dave

To me it is worth it.

The upcharge is a lot of money, but then again lets keep it in perspective with pecrcentages since the RT isnt a cheap car. Its a 20% upcharge to get the best features offered without the need to tinker.

I'm not buying as an investment, but im using history to help guide optimizing my choices including.

Best performance package
Loaded
Original - no modifications (at least no non-reversable mods)
Full documentation, history
Rarity (although not picking a rare combination, I hope there are very few SRTs in total)

My choices are because I choose to afford them. My #1 choice to buy an SRT is because I want it!

Dave, I started this thread, and let me state that I have nothing but respect for the SRT8. My simple question is this........is the SRT8 worth 11K more than the R/T? You seem to be over sensitive to what has been posted.

About other options causing problems, well, we can agree to disagree. My mods on my 05 GTO did not cause any problems at all, then again most were bollt ons, and the engine block was never tampered with. I ran her over 200 times (I had her two years) down the quarter and never had a problem.

I still stand by my question about is the SRT8 worth 11K more than the R/T.

I really want the dark water blue metallic color which is not offered with the SRT8. There are some positives about the 5.7 which has been mentioned, however until the mopar performance new goodies are out on both the 5.7 and 6.1 engines, these are all just variables until Mopar performance comes out with absolute parts and absolute prices. These mopar parts also won't void the warranty.

To answer the question, in a word yes. The many differences between the vehicles is definatey worth it. Engine, suspension, brakes, wheels, tires, etc. are worth a lot more than the difference?

If you posed this question to help with your decision, I see most responses would lead you to the SRT.

Hope this helps,

Dave

its the same reason ppl were buying the 335 bmw instead of he e46 m3 a the time when he 335 came out....why? because it was a better deal and the 335 outperformed it....so this question is great and is a great discussion as to whether its he better deal or not.

Basically, I think it comes down to this: If you have the money for the SRT (along with it higher fuel and insurance costs), buy it. Otherwise, buy an R/T. I'm still going for two SEs, though.

And you got to remember DiaDave you got a good price on your SRT 8 and to get one now with all the hipe and price gouging is near impossible and a 2009 SRT 8 has been raised another two grand and believe me for securing either a 2008 or a 2009 unless you have very deep pockets or are a big shot or a celebrity is extremely hard as I know first hand as i have tried over 50 some dealers now and they all want a high premium from here on the east coast all the way to the St Louis to New Orleans , no joke Fat Cat

If I could find a SRT 8 for MSRP or even as I have offered 1000 over MSRP I would definitely buy it but I will love my loaded R/T for 35025 and save the 11000 and then spend abot 3000 for air goodies exhaust goodies and computer tuning goodies that will net about 45 more HP that will bring my RT with 370 HP to a total 410 HP very close to the SRT8 with out the gas guzzler tax and with better over all gas mileage Fat Cat

Looks like I will be pulling the trigger on a 2009 Challenger and was wondering what you other members think. Is the SRT8 worth 11K more than the R/T?

Two words, RESALE VALUE!
