There has been some great point counterpoint about if the SRT is worth more than the RT. My personal opinion is, WHO REALLY GIVES A RAT'S BUTT? You buy the car you want and either you are happy or unhappy with it. If you are scared to lose money, put your cash in a money market account not a car, any car. I spent 48K on a 2006 Avalanche 2 years ago. I just traded it in and got blue book..16K. So what!! I bought it because I wanted it, needed it. Not for investment. You want investment, go buy gold or silver. Geez, its a freaking car for crying out loud. A beautiful work of art yes but still a car. Get over it.

And for Kevin, just watch the Barrett Jackson Auto auction if you dont think American cars retain value.
Great points brucer... but there is no need or point to justifying a money market as an investment... it obviously is.
If I can somehow justify my Challenger purchase as an investment I can feel better about my "smart" purchase decision.
As fun as money markets are... I personally think the Challenger will have more "seat of the pants" entertainment value, and might edge out the money market in the coolness factor too.

Remember, with this or any other investment... youre milage may vary...

Here is a thought: Buy the RT and put $10,000 in a money market fund. At the point which the mm fund grows to equal the amount owed on your car loan pay off the car early. As for the resale value of the Challenger I think it will be poor. The automakers quit building 2 door cars because there was no demand for them. We will see if this is still true today by comparing the sales of the Charger and Challenger. If you look back 2 or 3 years the Charger RT was a fairly hot seller. Today the SE Plus outsells RT's and SRT's combined. High fuel costs and "the green movement" will cause all cars with v8's to depreciate more quickly. It is simply a demand issue. Finally, I would buy the car that fit my budget. Most of us don't have the disposable income to easily afford an SRT or even a RT. If you are spending over $3x,000 on a car, you need to love it and drive it. Don't buy more than you can afford or you will be backwards if you need to dump it.

Mopar, my wife has a tendancy to block out anything I say if it begins with "it will be a good investment". We bought a 27 foot SeaRay and at the time it was a good deal and great for the fun factor. However, with almost $6 gas and a thirsty 454 pushing it, that fun investment went out the window. I tried with the Challenger and got the eyes rolling look so I just bagged the excuses and told her "its my last hotrod and I need it". That seemed to work as she didnt balk at the price tag on my 09. She did however seriously turn down the add on for the midlife crisis car..the blonde bimbo with the big hair and big boobs.

Consumer reports best buy. Enough said on the subject. If you disagree then you disagree. You will not change my mind and I yours. A common goal we can hopefully agree upon-that challenger is a great looking car.

Sorry, The only Luxury car in the top ten of Consumer Reports is the Lexus LS 460L. I'm a fan of Toyota but the Camry has all the basic makings of a Lexus!

Toyotas are good cars, just stay away from the V6, they still blow head gaskets(not enough bolts in the heads)! The 4 bangers still last forever. I agree on the Lexus, a Camry has the same engine, drivetrain etc.., Don't waste your money! Again, they both have a problem with the V6, buy a 4 cylinder Camry!

BTW, it's spelled WOOD!

Link to this, you are right about luxury but the 3 series is rated as a different category.
