For my Dodge Caravan, I change my regular standard oil out every 5K miles and the oil always looks clean.

The 3K mile change interval myth is a oil companies dream that has worked.

It is just a waste of money.

For the warranty on a new car don't you need to adhere to the 3k mile oil change interval though?

In a word, no. What you want to make sure you do, however, is use exactly the weight oil called for in the owner's manual. As I understand it, car companies DO check that if something happens to the engine and if anything but the "required" oil is in there, it can cancel your warranty.

Our pick up truck asks for 5K mile oil changes.

Let me know what your manual says for your car.

Well, so much for needing to change it every 3K miles. Follow your manual.

Under normal driving conditions (at least for Asian) you're typically seeing 7500 intervals with water light 5w30. I go 10w30 rotella.

It usually is nowadays, 5K or 6months. That is what my Mustang calls for in the manual, and that is what was called in my 04 Neon SXT I had before.
