I don't mind dry bread

But really I'm just too poor to afford a house anyway so I might as well have a cool car.

ok I dont' make buku bucks but im in no postion to buy a house but I could if I really wanted. But as I venture farther out on the limb of life I want to spend my money on things I like and can enjoy i.e cars one day I'll have the perfect relationship and will get married and buy a house but till then I'll pursue my ambitions and education as much as I can. Who knows maybe I have the perfect relationship now. Why not get something fast while I can??

Most Americans spend more than they make. This is (one of a million) reasons we are in such economic times as we are. It has been stated many times in this forum - only buy what you can afford - and it is not just money we are talking about. It is about your future. Generally speaking humans are short sighted. All too often we sacrifice the future for a few fleeting pleasures today.

I don't know why but some people have to have the newest lastest "thing" while others are content with what they have.
My dad always would say to me (and I hated it when I was young), "If you have to ask how much it is, then it is too much to ask for." Today, now as a dad, I say this to my kids (payback 8^) ), but hopefully I will instill the same restraint and discipline.

I will be paying cash for my SRT8. Credit Card companies frown on my wife and I, but if we can not pay cash, we don't get it. Ah, the only way to live, not owing a cent to anyone. It is a great feeling of freedom, - thanks dad, rest comfortably; one lesson learned.

Great advice by many. I agree, and in a perfect world we would only buy what we could afford.
Two sides to everything, and I live that other side.....

If you want it... you find a way to get it. Work harder, work smarter or work more. The motivation to make more is for a better life, so it's no wonder we adjust our life style to the mighty paycheck.
I run my own business and believe it takes it to make it. The only thing better then 20% on my investment is 20% on some one elses money! Credit is key in what I have done in the past 21 years, and without it I would be stuck in the same box many are.

... Debt is what you do with it. I WILL have my Challenger, and I will have a payment. I will continue to over heat my pool, and over spend my budget... Is it right? Hell no!, or Hell yes! At 43 years old I wont spend my life saving up to climb mountains in Alaska, and dive in Costa Rica... I just do it. I have a beautiful 21 year old daughter, and if I waited until I could afford a kid I would not have her.

Friends say I have a great life and am very lucky.... Guess what? The harder I work the luckier I get!

Ever look back on something and think "I wish I had"..... 2 Heart attacks later, and all family members past. Life is short and needs to be lived.

My 2 cents worth (warning! the .02 was borrowed!)

Wow! Andre I feel the same way man. It's your money you want it go get it, but be prepared to pay for it. I've always said, "nothing's giving to you, you have to go out and take it" " Heaven is what you make it and Hell is what you go through to get there"

ORIGINAL: awsure

I am surprised no one has suggested that you save the money & pay cash for the car. Is that concept completely lost in todays world? I sure hope not. That is the way I plan to do it so the only "payment" I have is insurance, gas, & maintenance. I would suggest you call your insurance company & ask them to ballpark a price for a car like this as I suspect you may find that your age will impact it pretty significantly.

If you want some good "old fashioned" financial advice (the kind your Grandma used to give) I would suggest you tune your radio into Dave Ramsey. I think his website is daveramsey.com

Thats exactly what I'm trying to do. Hopefully by the beginning of 2009 I can get a used Challenger 2008 for around $35-$40,000. If thats the case I will pay cash for it. I'm 25 BTW will be 26 this September.

Being a limited production car and with such a long waiting list I doubt you will see any deals on a 08 challenger .

Wow that is some seriously optimistic &$%!! Most people who've paid near 50 grand for their 6400 limited production run 08 won't be turning around selling it for a 15k loss 3 months after getting it. No, not most, all.

We did a financial advice discussion about a year ago. I am not going to bother in posting it again, but my adivce is to not get in over rhead if you cannot afford it
just to wow people. Live within your means and save your money and plan for everything financially. That will keep you out of financial trouble and without the headaches you don't need.

Ride that Challenger Passion.

By the time the 09's go into production, ... I am guessing the base price is going to go up over what they said at the New York autoshow. I am guessing the SRT8 will base around 39K then add the 2.1 ggt and the options and voila, 45K - maybe more.

So who will sign up for a 50K car? It better come with a personal valet.
