Most everyone would like a low badge number, but which would you believe is best made badge # 1 or badge # 6400 ? Did the first car get all the attention and focus to detail or did the 6400th car get built better by learning how to do it 6399 times?

Thank you guys all for the warm welcome and yes I will be informing you ASAP on anything I hear.

Also here is some interesting info, it says on All par on their website that the 2009's will begin production April 14th ? That is way ahead of what I have been told ?

At this time I am told that production for 2008's will begin on March 31st. I have a friend that works for Chrysler in Detroit and he and my sales rep with Chrysler are working to see if I can pick mine up in person at the factory ? I hear that once the cars are built they have to sit a few days at the border to clear US Customs, so I will try and cut that time down if at all possible.

I can't wait to drive it !!! We got the Hemi Orange Daytona Charger in yesterday and that has me itching even more !!!

npiefer,

just curious

how long does the assembly of a car take, say from start to finish? 4 weeks? How far apart from finsih of one car to the next? 6400 cars divided by 50 cars a day = 26 work weeks. 26 weeks from may 1st that would mean last production 08's in Dec. can't be, so they must turn out more cars a day or shift work. how many comes off the assembly line a day?

Another question, how did dodge assign badge #s? Was a certain number of the first production cars alloted for high profile persons of interest? or by time order was entered?

As you are probably aware there are many variables in a production line and it depends on how many resources they want to dedicate to the process. Just a guess but I would think they could produce 6400 cars in a few weeks, but with it being a start up you don't know how quickly they will get up to speed.

And also, by the sheer gravity and importance of this run; this model, you don't want the first ones (or any for that matter) to be at all lemonish...

Hopefully the QC the pooh out of these jammies and delay delivery before compromising an iota of quality. Let's go mopar! We're all counting on ya!

OK I just called my Chrysler rep to get better answers to these questions and here they are. Normally a car takes about 2 days, start to finish on a production line but with this being a new model they will take an extra day or 2 for QC. He is sure that the production run of the 2008 Challengers SRT8's will be all of April and all of May so they will build 6400 cars in 2 months roughly so you do the math. That is quite a few cars a day being turned out. Also he says it is his understanding that all of the Hemi Orange cars will be built first, followed by black and then silver no matter when the orders were placed, the orange comes first.

Again this is my Sales Rep with Chrysler and he is NOT always right but usually has some insight of course.

Well, hope you weren't looking for your 08 challenger before June. Anyone who has placed an order on an 08 would be very, very lucky to receive their challenger by the end of May. The possibility exists but it is very unlikely. They will not start production until the 21st of April at the earliest, that is pretty much set in stone. This means, we still have over 2 months of waiting, that is for the early orders. This means some will not be delivered until August. Tick-tock, tick-tock, I'm tired of waiting, I'm ready to spin a tire or two.
