Houston Texas, 4th largest city in the USA and in 2006 and 2007 car shows, there was not a Challenger. I could not freaking believe that. So I have yet to see one. I spoke to some Dodge personnel and they felt the same way as I did.

The Camaro was ugly, and that is being nice. I saw the coupe at the 2006 show and the vert at the 2007 show. I saw nothing that made me feel like it was going to be special.

The Shelby GT 500, saw one at the 2006 car show and raced one at Houston Raceway Park a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't much of a contest as the guy didn't really know how to run a quarter mile. It was a nice car, but not near worth the money that people have been paying for it, upwards of $50,000.

Last week I was at a stop light on a 4 lane road and a black GT 500 pulled up along side of me. He glanced over just in time to see my wife yelling at me and the boys throwing french fries at me from the back seat. He shook his head a few times and treated me to a couple of 5,000 rpm blasts. MY GOD that supercharger sounds AWESOME! So I put the trusty 140 hp Subaru in neutral and revved it a few times. He laughed so hard I thought he was going to pass out right on the spot. When the light turned green he side-stepped that 3rd pedel and put that thing to the floor. I can't remember the last time I saw something launch that hard. Just like a magic trick, a cloud of smoke and it was gone. If the Challenger takes off like that, I'm going to have a hellova lot of fun with it.

I never go to shows unless I know the car is going to be there. The last time (drove 3 hours) I went to the Houston Auto Show I made sure I knew
the Ford GT was going to be there. It was and I drewled all over myself.

I went to the (drove 3 hours) Dallas Auto Show because I knew the Dodge Challenger was going to be there. I drewled again.

If you are going to drive 30 minutes, pay for parking and pay to go to a show to see the Challenger, guess what..............

Just a suggestion.

Well, I received my GT500 a few weeks ago. It's all I expected and more. Worth every penny. I'm still trying to convince my wife I need a challenger.

Awesome color combo! Did they hit you with a "rape" charge? I called 7 dealers and the lowest "rape" charge I got was $5,000. The highest(for a conv.) was $25,000! Needless to say, I ran away.

Awsome car and I think its against the law to have a 500 and a new Callenger in the same garage. Too much horsepower in one place. have fun with that beast and be careful.

Thanks. The color combo was my wife's choice. I paid $2,000 over MSRP. Got it from a very small dealership that got only 1 Shelby. I guess the extra $2K was to pay for their certification. After options, tax & title, I paid just over $48K. I feel very lucky to get the deal I got. I've seen GT500s sell for over $100K in California. They're still running at about $10K to $20K over MSRP in Denver.

Current Mods:
- Bassani Axle-backs
- JLT CAI
- Stage 1 tune from Evolution Performance
~510 rwhp

lear4406, there's no such thing as too much horsepower. :-)

True, true, you are right about the too much horsepower. The never ending search for a few more ponies. Normal folks always ask, are you done with it yet? And my answer is always the same, almost... looking for a few more bolt ons. Take care.

A friend of mine, his father must have been one of the first people to get the new GT500. He was on a waiting list for 18 months to get it. The first day he got it, he put on wide chamber mufflers. I got to check it out, it was really bad ass. It was a toss up for me between the Camaro, Challenger, and GT500, but all the GT500s are pretty well spoken for, and my work situation now makes the Challenger the obvious choice. Im so pumped to get one.
