Will the new Challenger hurt the value of the original Challenger?
I am wondering what people think the effect the new Challenger will have on the value of the original Challenger.

RE: Will the new Challenger hurt the value of the original Challenger?
I've done the retro Thunderbird thing. My little birds (55 & 57) values went up. The retro car causes a stir of interest. Many opted for the 02/05 Thunderbirds because it captured the coolness and similar styling without all the restoration/maintenence worries, but retro put focus on early birds none the less. Focus increases value.
New Challenger will stir interest in the originals moreso because the new Challenger is meant to be muscle in its heritage, moreso than nostalgia and image.
my opinion, of course.

I could be wrong about this, but I think I read an article back around 05 that the current Mustang helped to increase the value of the classics, so I would expect the same out of this. I think that since it has been so long since the Challenger was produced that this car will act as a reminder for people and more will want them.

RE: Will the new Challenger hurt the value of the original Challenger?
Very good points. The value of the original has been dropping lately. With the 2008 Challenger looking more like the 1970 than any of the other retro cars, I am wondering how many people will sell their old to buy the new? I for one am actually thinking about doing just that. I have gotten to soft in my old age and really appreciate modern accessories. I drive my old Challenger quite a lot and it is just not the same as it was back in the 70's.

i don't think the new challenger will be around long enough to lower the value of the original challengers

Don't do it. Keep in mind there is a finite number of 30+ year old Challengers. The value is in collectors desire but to a great extent is driven by scarcity and as time wears on you will see fewer & fewer. The new Challenger is bound to introduce more excitement into the older models inmy guess.
Jake...I think you will eat those words in a few years.

Awsure, I'm with you. I think this round will certainly get at least 4 years, and I would love to see a second gen if the Mopar gods smile on it!

i hope i do but this muscle car resugance i think is just gonna be a fad if you look at the declining sales of the charger 300 and magnum which has been canceled i think the same thing will happen with the challenger they will sell fine in the first 2 or 3 years but after that the numbers will fall unless they keep production numbers each year low in which case the average person wont be able to buy one anyway

First off the Magnum is a station wagon no matter how many HP are under the hood. C'mon...muscle car. NO! A fast wagon...OK.
Secondly, Die hard Charger fans and owners of the Dukes of Hazard DVD box sets were not thrilled with a four door Charger. They (I believe) will LOVE Challenger. Heck, remove the Charger badge and you cannot show me a more powerful and good looking American sports sedan. The logo just doesn't match up.
With due respect I think you are trying to compare apples & oranges. Success or failure of Challenger is not dependent or predicated on the Magnum or Charger. This car will stand on its own & in my view will actually act as a rising tide for Chrysler in general.
