i think until this is solved maybe we should have a sticky
specifically pointing out that any and all PMs warning of a virus
on your computer should have the user name noted and then
the PM deleted.

obviously those of us that are daily users know of the problem but
someone that hasn't been on in months or is a newbie could get
snagged by the fake virus warning.

also i was wondering if the software the site is built on will allow
the blocking of newbie PMs until they have 10 or maybe 25 posts
as some sites do?
or how about moderated where all new users first 10 posts have to
be approved by a moderator before hitting the board.

 

I agree, post a general warning in a way everyone will notice it. I got 5 of these deceptive messages right now. I think you can block PM messages for the first 10 posts or something like that.

Meanwhile I've seen that problem appearing on an other VBulletin board, too.

so long as you don't go to any of their posted links you will be fine, you might also want to go in to USER CP and shut off the PM feature.
