While looking for a transmisson in my friends pasture I noticed a ford with the bed cut off was just killing time and looked under the hood and it had a 460 in it he said that the transmission and transfor case was shot but the motor still ran but it burned some oil he said he'd sale it to me for $300 and i was wondering if anyone knew if it would be worth the time and money if i took it and rebuilt it and tried to sale it i have no idea if the 460 is a popular engine or what

 

The 460 was primarily used in the full-size Fords in the 1970s, such as the LTD, Grand Marquis and Lincoln Continentals. They were great torque monsters but they were way too smogged up to be of any real "performance" engine - most refer to these as one of Ford's biggest "boat anchors". Most of these only had horsepower ratings in the 200 range.

Yes, yes, you can build them up if you're really so inclined (and I know of some people who have)... but they're not on any real Ford enthusiast's list as a "must have" engine, unlike perhaps a Boss 302 or a Boss 429, or even a 351 Cleveland. Personally I wouldn't bother with it, but that's just my opinion.

 

If i was keeping my mustang instead of selling to get more money towards my challenger i would build it in a heart beat. There is a whole following of fox body guys that love 460s. http://www.460ford.com/ Ask the guys over there about it.

 

I know what u mean about the fox guys my cusin squeasd one in his old 5.0 he had to put a 4 or 6 in cowl (I cant remember which) to cover it up and i got another question i got a 350 im rebuilding on a buget and i meen a TIGHT TIGHT buget but i won 80 on a scratchers card and so i have a few bucks to mess around with i already got a cam and a dress up kit what would you do to it for more power in a daily driver
