Default I rode in an SRT-8 this morning

An SRT-8 Magnum to be exact. My oldest son traded his 06 Go-Man-Go Dodge Daytona in on an 07 SRT-8 Magnum. All I can say is this car moves. And stops! And handles really well. You guys waiting on your SRT-8 Challengers are in for a treat I thought the 5.7 Hemi was a really powerful car but this 6.1 moves out. I think I made my mind up to get an SRT-8 Challenger and not the R/T. I still think the R/T is the better buy, but once you ride in an SRT-8... well that will be what you want. We tested an SRT-8 Charger a few months ago and was not impressed with its perfomance. But this magnum seems to have all its 425 HP and you can feel the difference between the two. Moral of the story is they don't all perform the same. Or the engine just was'nt run hard enough for the computor to adjust to it and give it a performancentune.

I would have thought the charger is faster, must need breaking in.

The charger was a 5.7, the SRT magnum is a 6.1

dude you don't need to have 40k to be as fast as an SRT.... please... maybe you didn't mean to sound rude...but it did to me...I don't have the cha-ching to get an SRT but I know for sure I can get an R/T to take down an SRT...with a little help from some goodies

The gap has closed on the 5.7 and the 6.1 thats for sure. With the 375 hp on tap unless the 6.1 goes through an upgrade the hp numbers are closer. But the SRT-8 Charger we tested did not have the grunt of this SRT-8 Magnum. I can't say that the gas was a factor or not. Some people will go cheap and put mid or low grade fuel in and that would alllow performance to suffer. I do know as the cars were the Magnum is alot stronger ride. The Charger had 7000 miles on it and the rear tires were replaced. Sounds like it might have been an early 1/4 mile blaster. Also had a few mods and an open element breather. But it was not any stronger than his 5.7 Daytona that had an intake and flowmaster exhaust. But this stock Magnum SRT-8 is the real 425 hp deal

That doesn't make sense since the truth of the matter is the Charger is faster than the Magnum. Perhaps there was something wrong with the Charger SRT-8 that you drove? The fuel grade is a possibility also if I'm understanding you correctly, it sounds as though this Magnum has been tuned a bit.

Nothing done on the SRT-8 Magnum but a open element K&N filter and a plastic smooth intake. But the SRT-8 Charger we drove was at a Ford dealership here in Kannapolis and looked really nice in red. It only had 8000 miles on it and had mods done to it. Strut bar, fan mod and suitcases had been taken off and replaced with straight pipe. Also had K&N open element intake. But the car had new rear tires on it with only 8000 miles on the clock. Seemed kinda fishy. But the car was weak, weak as in not feeling any better than my sons 5.7 Daytona. I thought that was the way they performed. But when I took a ride in the Magnum... I knew the difference in a 5.7 and 6.1. That morning we entered the on ramp at I-85 and he had to hit the hammer... well lets just say we were at almost double the speed limit when he merged. And quickly slowed to 80. The acceleration is awsome and it brakes and handles really quite well. The brakes are really, really good. I really don't know what was up with the Charger and can only speculate. Maybe cheap dealership and regular gas... I don't know for sure.

I've driven the Charger SRT8, one with 6000 miles on it and can say without a doubt that this car is one of the fastest street cars I've ever driven. Grunt off the line and that 6.1 Hemi winds up very quickly. I had no intentions of exploring top end but 0-120 mph was easily in the 15 second range on a poor surface with traction control engaged and auto-stick left in drive. I really doubt that the Magnum SRT8 is quicker than the Charger SRT8. You probably drove one that had been thrashed severely or had cheap gas in it. The mods could also be a factor......louder is not neccessarily faster with some of these aftermarket parts and a factory ecm. The 6.1 is an awesome engine that is music to the ears of us Mopar guys and a funeral dirge to those of other persuasions.
