Test drove a Dodge today
Got some deal for a couple free nights at a resort & was chatting with the sales guy & his manager about the Challenger. They are pretty geeked up for it but I think a little hopeful. They claim an October 2007 release which would really be cool but I am pretty doubtful. They also think we should expect the price of a 6.1L around $50k. On this point they might be closer to the mark as they showed me a couple Charger SRT's on the lot (one has the Super Bee trim package) for between $45-50k. He thought the dealer markup would be $10k or so in the early stages. We talked about a possible 6 cylinder and he was non commital on his opinion of if & when.
Obviously speculative but interesting to hear their take. He did say the buzz on the Challenger is high.

Did you get to test drive the SRT Charger? I would love to get a chance to drive one.
I hope the challenger is going to be cheaper than 50K.

No, I drove some mid-sized SUV (can't even remember the name) but I have driven the Charger R/T with the 5.7L a few months back. I would like to try the SRT because I think the ride should feel real similar to what we can expect from Challenger as they share the same framework. I asked this weekend at the show & they claimed some dealers were putting people on lists for $500-1000 over MSRP. I have a hard time swallowing that but I also hope $50k is just as unrealistic.

I'm not getting involved with this complaining fest about prices when we don't even know about this stuff for sure. Patrick, if you so love the Vette why don't you just get one already since you think the world of it. Remember when you buy a Chevy your getting a Chevy.
Awsure, I'm betting the SUV you test drove was the new Dodge Nitro which is on a larger Jeep Liberty platform. Was it an R/T model?

Yeah, It was the Nitro. It was the smaller V6 so probably SXT (if that follows their badging) and it was OK. I have 4 kids so a five passenger anything is pretty much unusable from an SUV or van perspective. I only went in to get the free two nights stay in Duluth between November 4th and November 8th...next time I'll check that fine print. [:-]

Do they make a Nitro R/T model? I haven't read anything about it if they did. I think it would be cool if they put the srt motor from the caliper in it.

awsure, so did you like the Nitro?
jbb840, the R/T model offers a 4.0L 24 valve SOHC V6 which produces 255hp & 275ft-lbs of tq. It is equipped with the Mercedes-designed W5A580 5-speed automatic (the same tranny used in the Charger, 300C, Magnum [LX cars], as well as some other SUVs).

RE: Test drove a Dodge today
I liked it OK. For me personally it's not practical as it cannot accommodate my four kids. But as a mid-sized SUV it is pretty well priced and felt decent on the road. I do like the look of it as well. I actually really like the Caliber as a relatively lower cost small, fun vehicle. My niece is going to college next year and I think the Caliber would be cool for her.
