Spy Shots: Best yet of 2009 Dodge Challenger
Filed under: Spy Photos, Coupes, Dodge

click above image to see 8 high-res spy shots of the 2009 Dodge Challenger

Preproduction prototypes of the Dodge Challenger have been spotted all over Detroit in the past few months, but most have been captured with camera phones and revealed little detail about the muscle car coming from Chrysler. KGP Photographers ran into one recently and were armed with proper DSLRs to shoot the car to death, focusing particularly on details like the headlights, taillights and wheels that previous low-res spy shots have missed. In a few pictures we can see through the mesh of the camo and glimpse the headlight hardware, which looks high-tech, perhaps incorporating LEDs around the frame of the circles just like the concept, and trimmed in chrome. The same goes for the taillights, which appear close to the concept's. Finally, through the wheels we can clearly see some serious stopping power in the form of rotors that would look right at home on a Dodge Ram. Is there anything on this car that will differ significantly from the concept? Our guess is that the first interior spy shots we see will hold the answer.

Check out the gallery of eight spy shots below, and we've also included a gallery of the Dodge Challenger Concept for comparison's sake.

And it's got a duck tail spoiler for sure!!!

There appears to be a change in the front grill. Looks more like the 1970 grill where the concept looked like the 1971.

Also did you notice the exhaust tips now look like the 70 Cuda, not the old Challenger.

What I noticed:

The front grill appears to either be circular or octagonal holes.

The rear brake light does not appear to go all the way across based on the holes in the middle I see.

LED brake lights in the rear windshield was added which is common

GPS antenna on the rear roof was added.

I liked the older style exhaust tips better.

Doesn't appear to have a shaker scoop.

I wish I could see the duck tail spoiler better.

Love the six shooter lights in the front grill.

Anyone notice the black lip on the front bumper?

Wonder if the spoiler will be an option...personal preference but I'd opt not to get one :)

Looks good to me, so far.
I hope the flatter doors are not too flat, but it's hard to tell if they are flatter.
Hoping for a 5.7L 6sp manual in solid B5 Blue with a sunroof![8D]

The mirrors also look longer. i prefer the mirrors on the concept.

RE: Latest Spy Shots!!

I'm guessing the mirror is longer because of the tarps.

Somebody on another board did another Photoshop job on pic of a test car with the camouflage tarps and produced this. It looks pretty good, I think:

Not bad at all but they missed the rear deck spoiler..

....and the B pillar.
The hood looks too round, the C pillar looks too narrow (the back should extend/angle more toward the trunk), and the grille opening (between the hood and bumper) looks narrow too.
5 more months and we'll know for sure.

2009 Dodge Challenger wearing a Colorgasmic Paint Job

We've already seen it in spy photos -- a lot, but one of us was headed down I-275 an hour ago and spotted the musclegasm that is the 2009 Dodge Challenger meandering down the left lane at posted speeds. Luckily, we were coming from an event so we happened to have a camera nearby to catch the re-make making its way south. What was weird about this particular test vehicle was it appeared to be both red and black. So, what -- they couldn't decide whether they what color they wanted it to be? Seriously guys, pick a color -- preferably before the 2008 Chicago Auto Show reveal.

Good catch. After your post, I went back and looked at them. Whoever posted them on the web accidently inverted them except for the last one.

I didn't notice until you mentioned it. All I did was copy and paste. That is not something that is easily done but I am not sure why somebody would purposely do it.

Notice how some of the signs are backwards.

Ok we'll start a rumor that they are testing the 2008 Challenger in Australia for a right hand drive. For sale in conjunction with the release of the American version.;) It won't have a "B" pillar and will have a crosshair grill with a 6.4 and a six-speed transmission. Cricky Mate... you Australians get all the good stuff:D Oh and the bodies made of carbon fiber and the tires run on 20" rims. And the price is just $26,000. WOW!

You're saying that because there is a person visible in the passenger side seat and no one visible in the driver's seat that it appears that it might be left hand drive? Interesting. Perhaps they are testing out left hand drive models and reconsidering not selling left hand drive models.

New Spy Shots from Las Vegas Dealers Convention!

Originally posted on another site - from the LasVegas Dodge Dealers Convention last week.

Thought you folks may not have seen these yet.........
This APPEARS to be a production Challenger. Note the differences between this one and the concept in the wheels, wheel/tire size, flip rear spoiler, b-pillar, taillights, hood scoops (not the actuated flaps now), different inner headlamps....... You can pick out the differences. Suffice to say that this is NOT the same concept car we've seen for so long now.

I believe these were NOT supposed to get out and were apparently taken with a camera phone. The resolution isn't great, so I did what I could to clean them up.
Thanks to "a friend" for the pics.

Looks just like the car that has been under the cover, tailights grill area. Looks more like production. I actually like it better.

Guys I just have to say... as a person who has been waiting a long, long, time. That car is awsome! My hat is off to Dodge who has put a dream car together and kept it true to the concept. That car is nicer than the concept and that says alot. Man what a gem. Just can't say enough about where we were 20 years ago, with little or no hope of a true Dodge Challenger to come in the future. And here we see the results of many people and lots of time spent to make this happen. Hemi engine, manual shift and an E body look-alike. Thank you Mother Mopar and I say that with years of relief in my voice. Now I have to calm down the neighbors are starting to look.:D

While the butterfly valves on the scoops may be missing, I can easily see them adding it.

Either way as far as I know those are fully functional hood scoops that feed the EFI and not just cool the engine like on the Charger.

Nice pictures! Thanks for posting. Just a validation how good the production will look compared to the concept.

1970 front grill, old school T/A rear deck spoiler, much better looking wheels.

The rear tail light still looks fairly large like the concept.

I just wish I could've gotten some "hi-res" pics to post, but this is FAR better than what we've had so far - pics with bra's/tents covering the production cars.
[:'(]
I want that car (yeah, maybe even in that color), and what I see in the pics tells me I don't have to find a set of "retro" Cragar Mags to fit it, or a duck-tail/flip spoiler from an aftermarket company. It's really close to what I imagined doing to the appearance already.
Yeah, the b-pillar is there, but it looks like it's restricted to "behind the glass" and doesn't look bad at all, so that isn't an issue for me anymore - besides, no one will see it after I tint the glass.
;)
I think the only issue (in MY mind) is what the production numbers and resulting dealer markup will be. I STILL won't pay over MSRP, so Dodge better make a BUNCH of 'em....... I know there are quite a few "presold" from what I see and read in this forum.

Oh, and lear4406 ........ close your drapes, please.
:D

Jeremiah 29:11 10-14-2007 06:33 PM

RE: New Spy Shots from Las Vegas Dealers Convention!

Yep, like I always tried to tell everybody.....the "B" pillar issue will go away when you look the the Challenger as a whole.

Awesome looking car!

RoswellGrey 10-14-2007 09:52 PM

RE: New Spy Shots from Las Vegas Dealers Convention!

So it looks like all I have to do is install the script Challenger badges (including one on the excellent grille) and the R/T badges in their proper places and get some white-letter tires (since these Cragar-looking wheels are fine) and the replacement for my '70 will be ready to roll. Thank God! It's been too long coming! :)
