I think it looks pretty sharp....the only problem I have is that Dodge has clouded the line between the difference trim levels...SRT vs. RT vs. SE. the average person on the street will have a hard time telling one from another.....unlike the 70-71 Challenger where you could tell right away which was a performance model and which was a 318 runner.....
(But, since the RT type hood is found on all models I guess it really doesn't matter)

 

Joe, do you have any idea how easy it was to mount an R/T hood on a '70 with a 318? With the assistance of one associate, we did it on mine in about 20 minutes.

 

Just remember on the other side of the coin. In 1970 You could have ordered the 340 4 bbl or 340 6 pak [T/A only] or the 383 4 bbl in the base Challenger. My convertible is a base Challenger with the N code 383 [log on ID], rallye guages, heavy duty rallye suspension, 3.23 sure grip rear end and dual exhaust with out the tips. All of the R/T goodies [except tips] in a base Challenger. You could of even ordered the power bulge or shaker hoods on any 4 bbl equiped cars built after Dec. 1969.

Yes, Yes....I to helped a friend do that very thing to his 70 318 Challenger...(When we were done his looked just like an RT as he also added the exhaust, markings and even the rally dash...but funny thing was..he never updated the engine...he loved his 318)...just trying to make a point, that back in the day you could still tell the top of the line RTs from most of the base line models.....

 

You can still tell which is which, although not from the hoods. No spoiler is an SE, unless it has the Rallye stripes, which nobody else has. Single exhaust is a giveaway on the SE.

RT has the hood to fender stripes or no stripes, and body color spoiler.

SRT has the black spoiler, SRT stripes, and SRT wheels.

I just saw a Challenger on the road yesterday, which is still pretty rare, and saw it was blue so no SRT, then I thought "hm, I wonder if it's an R/T or SE..." So I looked, and no spoiler = SE.

As mentioned above, it's certainly possible to disguise on model as another if you want to, but at least off the showroom floor it is distinguishable.

In all honestly, though, the "average person on the street" can't even tell the difference between a Challenger and a Charger, so the little do-dads we all know that differentiate the cars are of absolutely no importance.

 

I dont like it!!!!
Dodge is making things to hazey, and it only has a V6!
This will make it very difficult to pick out the real deal with out opening the hood.

 

Are you sure about your statement? To my recollection, the shaker hoods were standard on the 426 hemis and 440 6-packs. They only became available on the 340s and 383s for the 1971 model run.

 

I believe you are correct..........HOWEVER, there is a saying when it comes to old MOPARS....."Never say Never"....many odd and never offered options have found their way on cars that should never have had that option...one example being power windows on the Superbird...never offered, but there are two and maybe even three out there with that option, from the factory...and this is but one example....so who knows...
