727 vs 904

RE: 727 vs 904
To the earlier question about 727 being mated to the hemi the answer is Yes. To my understanding, 383's and up all were mated to 727 if automatic was used. I believe the 360, then later 5.9 was the largest v-8 coupled to the 904.
This thread also has me wondering what's in my '99 5.9 Durango. Years ago my trans guy told me it was a 727. Visually it looks like one as well but in may be a "variant" of the 727 as described earlier.

RE: 727 vs 904
The 5.9 99 Durango has a variant of the 727 called the a518, or the 46rh / 46re. It's just a 727 with a tail housing overdrive, and an aux. valve body. The 5.2 Durango took the a500 (42re) and that would be more like a late model a904 with the added gear and lock up.
