Dodge Challenger concept
It's unlikely to come to the UK - as an official import, at least - but muscle car fans everywhere will be pleased to hear that, after much deliberation, Chrysler has finally confirmed that its Challenger concept will go into production.
The two-door retro coupe, in the vein of the 1970-75 original of the same name and described as 'a reinterpretation', will go on sale in early 2008. It will be built on the same rear-wheel drive platform as the Charger saloon and Chrysler 300C/Dodge Magnum, though it may not be assembled at the same plant in Brampton, Ontario; factories in Michigan and even Mexico are said to be under consideration.
Chrysler has, as yet, not confirmed which engine the Challenger will use, but it's a safe bet that it'll be a Hemi V8 and a hotted-up SRT version is also expected. Prices are expected to start from around $20,000 (pre-tax), putting the Challenger head-to-head with the recently reborn Ford Mustang - and probably the recreated Chevrolet Camaro, also on the drawing board.
