Yeah the extra weight tends to negate some of the HP advantage. OTOH the GT comes with a fairly dog rear end (3.31). I'd have to guess all else being equal the R/T would get the nod by a hair. Put some 3.73 or 4.10 gears in the GT and it might pull ahead slightly. Realistically both cars are very close and as someone mentioned it's often gonna boil down to a driver's race.

Bring on the flamaro!

Thats what I was wondering about. That is why I said stock for stock, after the mods begin its how much money you throw at it. I was under the impression that the R/T had more ponies, but a heavier car. Samething we had in the 70s and it really did'nt keep the E-Bodies from being a favorite among the stories told about the good old days When my Gen. talks about bad cars from the 70s, they will always mention Cudas and Challengers. So let the legends begin and the tales start to be told about the next wave of American Muscle. This might be the last gasp.

1970 Challenger = 3700 lbs
2008 Challenger = 4100 lbs

Difference of 400 lbs... or about 11% increase for the 2008

My 72 440 challenger was 3500 pounds light without me, and race ready. This was with the carbon hood, and much weight reduction. The blower only added about 100lbs to the equation when you removed the stock boat anchor... er, I mean intake.
