I posted this to warn those who think that a casual down shift to a lower gear can if done incorrectly cause damage. I say this because I came close to doing it in a moment of more adrenaline than touch. I consider myself a good stick guy... but I made the mistake and as I let the clutch out the RPMs were coming real fast and I engaged the clutch and put the car in the right gear. Maybe I'm getting old but I now shift more deliberate. Some guys on here have not driven a stick in a while and I thought I might give a heads up to the potential. I know a guy who did this with 3000GT and took the engine to 9000 RPMs. Lucky for him the car went to limp mode and no damage was done. I hope we don't hear any horror stories of the sort.
