Very good question? I do not know anybody that has done this legitimately.

 

Why would Dodge announce something before the planned event in Chicago? It would only ruin the Chicago announcement, therefore I predict that we'll learn nothing until then. Now...SRTEight, supposedly has placed an order and was able to confirm that it was a SRT8 with 6.1L. This seems great! BUt the dealer also throws in the caveat that he'll need to come in and verify the order. This to me says "we have your money but you don't really have an order until Dodge opens the order bank. At that time, we'll call you and place an official order." That's just my take because I haven't heard of an official order announcement. One good way to check is ask your dealer "how many 2008 Challengers will you get?" and "How many orders have you taken?" This should help...I hope anyway.

 

Well the three being auctioned off in January are going to be SRT8s w/ Auto's .....man I hope there a 6sp Manual in the works.......

So, I'd guess the SRT8 will be available from the inception or is this naive?

 

Chicago is only the unveiling of the production car. That does not mean there will not be announcements before then. Look at the news today as an example.

 

I stopped by my closest Dodge dealer today (25 miles away) and they said that they are only getting one and that it "has been sold already". The dealer guy said that somebody came in and said that he would pay 15k OVER whatever the MSRP is........Dodge guy also said that he dosen't see any of the Challengers coming out before Feb 08.....course he also said that the MSRP would be around 50k......

 

How is it that all these people are making down payments on a product that does not yet exist? The local Dodge dealer (large) in my town said anyone that has payed money down already is getting snookered or blowing smoke!

 

Until somebody came prove me wrong, it is nothing but a bunch of smoke. I doubt anybody will be able to really order anything until February after the Chicago show.

That being said, that does not mean that a dealer will refuse a deposit. Anybody can hold a deposit.

 

I had to put $5,000 down and agree to pay $10,000 over MSRP. The owner of the dealership got the first one and I was told I would get the second. They said that most of the Dodge dealerships were only getting one or two of the SRT8 Challengers. It could all be hype but who knows until they actually show up at the dealership.

 

That is great that you are promised one of the first ones. My guess is that is strictly a dealership thing and and not a Dodge Inc. thing.

Like I said, anybody can hold your money. I hope he is a 5 Star dealership because I think they will be the first to get them then you can get yours.
