Not a freaking chance in hell that I will pay $10,000 over msrp for a new Chally, dont care how bad I want it, and I want one real bad. I'll just wait for the heat to die down or buy one a year or two later or used. For a company that's in termoil as they are, trying to soak us for an additional 10k is goin to piss off alot of potential buyers.
I understand what your saying, but its not the manufacture that adds the extra 10,000 to the MSRP, its the dealers who do this. Chrysler know this, but can't do anything about it. Well, they could, just say to the Dealers "If you mark any car above MSRP, we will cut you off". Well, they aren't going to do this, like cutting off the hand the feeds you.. I too will wait a couple of years to buy either a new one or used.

DodgeSales,

Buddy, you're trying to tell me if you could buy a jug o'milk for $0.50 instead of $1.00 you'd buy it for a $1.00? Huh? You may want to call it a mooch...I call it being a smart consumer ...and what you are sir, is well, the opposite of that.

Dealers are independently owned; therefore, it is not DCX who is responsible for any price increases. I admit I do not know very much about this Costco deal, but I find it hard to believe that Dodge is going to give Costco a limited production model like the Challenger to Costco over the dealerships which exclusively sell their other models. Supply and Demand will determine the price of this model, this is why I'm planning on waiting until the initial demand dies down.

No matter how you slice it, it still says Dodge or Chrysler on the front of the dealership. John's or Rick's Dodge Chrysler, it doesn't matter as far as I am concerned. Dodge can still put a cap on the price if they really wanted to cash in big on the Chally.

Costco doesn't have a dealership, what they do is negotiate with the dealers that are in town, but like I said, getting a Challenger thru Costco will be impossible on the first year run.

The way that business works is they have to scratch each others backs. If the corporate level dictates to the dealerships what price they have to sell at, the dealerships will eventually get ticked off and find business elsewhere. Based on some of the models they have built and given the dealerships, I can't image the dealerships are in the best mood right now.

Okay, now think about this for a minuet everyone. Why would a dealership sell to Costco if they know they can sell the Challenger for a premium. Costco will act as a middle man and will make sure they are making a nice profit. This might work on getting Chevy Malibus at a good price, but a Challenger when it is initially produced, dream on.

First off, the dealer doesn't sell the vehicle to Costco, Costco makes the deal for the consumer to buy a certain vehicle at a certain price- lets say invoice +500, Costco then inturns informs the customer what dealer and who to talk to. Remember that Costco is a membership only business, you have to be a member to use this service.

Then how on earth will this ever happen. I can't image a dealership any where selling a Challenger initially at only $500 more than invoice.

I agree that the Costco strategy will probably not work the first year due to the demand of the Challenger. I am going to wait until the 2009s come out (hopefully with more options) and give it a try.

For information about the Costco car buying program, see page 10 of its brochure at:
