When you test drive the Challenger turn off the ESP. You can completly shut off the ESP in the CHallengers instead of partially off.
Also, the auto stick in both the 5.7 and the 6.1 is faster in the quater mile and 0 to 60 speeds by. about .4 seconds. If you want copies of the road test for the manual vs the auto stick , I will foward them to you.
Again the automatic is faster than the manual is all Road Test conducted.

For me, I am not the type of mod type of guy!
I had, as mentioned before, an 02 6 speed z28 and that car had much more pull to it!
The 09 R/T I test drove was struggling to pull IMO!!
I could spend the extra $5 to $6k and get a 6 speed SRT but that is out of my budget.
For sure, when the 09 6 speed R/T's show up, I will definitely need to drive one before totally committing to buying the one I ordered.
The only mods I would do is some exhaust work and maybe some tuning on the engine as many of my buddies have done that with the LS1 camaros and Trans Ams!
Everything else about the R/T I loved, the looks, the smooth ride, the interior, etc.
Just the lack of power kinda bummed me out.

When there is three trim levels it's kinda obvious that the medium trim will not blow your mind away ... that's the whole point of the SRT. The SE is nothing but the body of a challenger with a tiny engine. The Camaro is a V6 300hp which is still not a muscle car engine . And the R/T is going to have medium v8 power what do you guys expect when there is another model that costs a lot more? And as far as an MSRP of almost 40k for an R/T you might as well get an SRT because that's crazy... You can have all the options for another 5 grand plus the bigger engine which will surley be fast enough ...

That is how I felt about the 06 charger daytona I drove. I think it's rated at 350hp, not sure of the torque, but it just wasn't quite thrilling enough. It had a pleasing sound, good power, and I almost bought it, but in the end I decided to get the car I knew I really wanted, an 09 Challenger SRT8 6 speed. Although sometimes I still wince when I think I could have had the daytona for $22,900, with 14,000 miles which was a good deal, but I'm fairly certain I would have regretted it the first time I saw a new Challenger rumble past me.

getting the SRT is good for all you guys that can afford it...but the RT is all I, and many others, can afford. I'm hoping to at least beat stock mustangs with my stock R/T 6speed that i have on order. Without knowing for sure yet, I believe it will when you take into consideration the Charger Daytona's 0-60 times of 5.5 sec and the challengers's addtional 25hp, more torque, steeper gearing, and slightly lighter weight. Its just gotta...

if your lookin for a car to basicaly win street races goin with a challenger in either model is foolish in my opinion the mustang and camaro are gonna win hands down and the mods for them will probably be cheaper but if your goin for looks challenger wins hands down

There is nothing wrong with the R/T it's a beautiful and fast car it's just not the top preforming model which is pretty much what the first poster was complaining about. And a Daytona Charger is a joke . They should have made the SRT Chargers labeled with daytona because for a long time I was under assumption the Daytona Charger was the top preforming model and they are just 350hp. The GoMango is the best color but man you pay a lot more for some stickers and color on an r/t.

These conversations sort of make me nuts. Buy the RT, spend a fortune and mod the grap out of it to get enough power and speed to beat STOCK Mustangs and next year Camaro's. Makes no sense to me..I see all of the complaing in comparing the SRT to the GT500 as not fair as the GT500 has a blower but piling a ton of money into an RT in order to beat stock Mustangs is? Folks, if you are worried about power, buy an SRT and IF you need more, then spend all of that extra cash you have and make that faster. Geez, not rocket science folks. I know people will say its fun and thats what Modders do, well if that is what you do, then lower the volume on the piehole about what an RT will do/not do, go do what you need to and move on. Be happy for what you buy and buy what will make you happy. You want power, buy an SRT.
Sort of like the guy that brings a knife to a gun fight, sure IF you can get close enough you might make a difference. However by the time you think you may be have an opening, you realize the opening is in your forehead.
