Drove an auto black R/T today! Dissappointed at lack of power.
the dealership that I ordered by 6 speed R/T just got an auto R/T.
Salesman called me and they told me they would sell it to me for sticker.
We drove it and it was smooth.
But the one thing I was not impressed was the power or lack there of.
It seemed it took a split second to long to take off and even they pull was not great.
I assume this is from the 3.08 gears. Yes this car had the 20 inch rims, sunroof, myGIG, 28J package, electronics group, sound group II, HID, Uconnect.
Sticker was $37945 and the mileage was if I remember correctly was 16 in the city and 25 in the highway. I assume this is due to the MDS.
I am hoping my 09 R/T with the 6 speed and 20" rims and 3.92 gears can have some more pull.
My 2002 6 speed z28 felt faster IMO. When we bought my z28 we tested an auto z28 with I think 3.23 gears and that felt slow. that is why we went with the 6 speed z28!!
Anybody else experience the same in testing an 09 R/T auto with 20 inch rims??

RE: Drove an auto black R/T today! Dissappointed at lack of power.
Thus far I've been VERY disappointed in the R/T's 0-60 and 1/4 mile times, both with the M6 and the automatic. As it stands, the new Camaro with its standard V6 is only a few tenths behind an R/T 0-60 and in the 1/4... [:'(]
I can only hope they loosen up (ALOT) when they get some miles on them, or hopefully they'll get another badly needed hp boost for 2010.

i think it is the gearing that is hurting a 4100 pound car.
Put some 3.55 gears on the auto and hopefully the 6 speed R/T with the 3.92 gears will excite me.
Just my $.02!

You might want to opt for the SRT if you feel the R/T does not have enough power for you. I have not driven a challenger so can not give an opinion, but I think the R/T will be fine for me since I am not drag racing but I also don't want a lugged down feel to the car. Just like my Dad taught me, always buy the plymouth in life since the dodge is the low end and the chrysler is expensive so always go middle of the road (old school logic).

I concur with mac op for the SRT.
Another person on a different forum has the total opposite of your story. But he properly bedded the engine, brakes, and transmission from Illinois to Niagara Falls and after 800-miles he unleashed the beast in his R/T. He was a happy camper and the fella has a 70's Baracuda.

I drove the r/t today too black and 20"s on it too. Gotta say it has a nice kick to it I already drove the srt. Yes there is a difference but nothing you can"t fix. That's why I'm getting one instead of the srt. I loved the R/T in every way not far enough from the srt not much really

Naturally if you aren't satisfied with an R/T it would be a logical step to upgrade to the SRT... but we're also talking several thousand more $ and a much more limited color selection if you go that route. I'm not a drag racer either, but with an R/T I should at least be able to hold my own against an unmodded base-model Mustang GT if one rolls aside at a stoplight instead of having to lay low for fear I'm gonna get majorly spanked. These conversations sort of make me nuts. Buy the RT, spend a fortune and mod the grap out of it to get enough power and speed to beat STOCK Mustangs and next year Camaro's. Makes no sense to me..I see all of the complaing in comparing the SRT to the GT500 as not fair as the GT500 has a blower but piling a ton of money into an RT in order to beat stock Mustangs is? Folks, if you are worried about power, buy an SRT and IF you need more, then spend all of that extra cash you have and make that faster. Geez, not rocket science folks. I know people will say its fun and thats what Modders do, well if that is what you do, then lower the volume on the piehole about what an RT will do/not do, go do what you need to and move on. Be happy for what you buy and buy what will make you happy. You want power, buy an SRT.
Sort of like the guy that brings a knife to a gun fight, sure IF you can get close enough you might make a difference. However by the time you think you may be have an opening, you realize the opening is in your forehead.
