RE: Ebay auction for Challenger SRT8 # 2 now underway
Actually, I'm wondering how much pressure the dealers are under from Chrysler to make this a really incredible price -- for publicity for the car. If you look at the eBay site, some of the bids were raised by the same sets of initials, one right after the other. Why would anyone put in a bid at an auction, then turn around and raise their own bid? This seems fishy to me.

That is an anonymous indication. Could even be different people bidding. Also, on eBay sometimes you place a bid thinking it was high enough & it winds up still lower than the top bid so you place another immediately so it may show you bid twice in succession but that is what's behind it. My wife is a big "eBayer" so she knows this stuff...

Current high bid, as of Sunday Sept. 30, 8:30 AM EST, is $90,101!!
I know that this car is a collectibe, but I do not like seeing a Challenger pushing the $100,000 mark. This will translate into huge dealer mark-ups the first year, just like some Dodge dealers are doing with the 2007 Plum Crazy SRT Chargers. [:@]

On the little poll someone started, I clicked the "$113K+" button. OF COURSE this is going to translate into huge dealer markups -- the dealers themselves are the ones driving up the price. And I'll bet Chrysler is urging them to do just that. This way, the poor customer can be told "look how popular the Challenger is! It went for more than $100K at auction! Be glad we're JUST charging you an extra $10K!" This is why, folks, it's stupid beyond all belief to ever pay more than MSRP. If Dodge dealers demand more than that for the Challengers, let the damn things sit on their lots. They'll quickly see the light of day and adjust the price accordingly.

This will have no effect on the MSRP. We all know that the current prices of the 1970-1974 are at an all time high because of the low production numbers and a demand from the boomers of what they apealed to in their youth. People will look at the 2008 Challengers with a low production number as a collector car. I don't see the first ones impacting MSRP. Collectors will pay 1000s of dollars to have the first few, but after that it will be the high dollar optioned cars with the best engine and 6-speed tranny. So I would'nt worry too much about these first few.

It's only at $106,888.00. Pocket change people, pocket change. Why isn't there more bids? I mean I figured this would be closer to $500,000. After all it's the most rare car on Earth. It flies, it takes you to space, it uses no fuel what so ever and actually restores the ozone to the Earth. It's just an amazing car. Ok, yeah, this price is definitely rediculous. Ends in 9hrs and 45 min. Wonder how much higher it goes.
Somehow I don't think Chrysler would be bumping up the popularity of this car. They already know it's big time popular and that they probably won't have a hard time selling it. Now the dealers working together on this may be a different story. As far as I know the factory doesn't get anything above what they sell it to the dealer for. If the dealer goes above MSRP then they keep that profit, correct me if I'm wrong, so what would Chrysler gain by doing this?
