Default F1 Supercar Tire Wear

I have read that the Goodyear F1 Supertires only last 16K miles because of their soft rubber compound (even less if you go crazy doing burnouts). The front tires, especially, wear out on the outer part, and it's not toe. It is caused by the aggressive setup using positive camber to make the car turn quicker.

At $300+ each for replacement tires, SRT owners are due for a $1,000+ bill in only 16 months of purchase.

I will be looking for a good 20" replacement tire that can provide high performance and a little more mileage.

They need to trot out the raised white letter Goodyear Polyglass F-60 14s again. You never heard about stuff like this with those tires. Damn modern technology.

I like the looks of the polyglass, but I would never accept that poor traction again. I love modern tires.

In all seriousness, I've never been able to tell any difference between the old polyglass tires and today's tires. Right up to its demise in 2001, I had polyglass Goodyears on my 70 Challenger and radials on my Thunderbird and Mustang, and they all handled pretty much the same, tire-wise. Of course, I do pretty conservative driving and it doesn't snow or even rain here much, so maybe that's a factor.

My original 1970 GTX came with F-60X15 tires. They were helpless in the rain. Anything over 50 MPH in the rain and you were taking your life in your hands. They were a great improvement over what they replaced for dry road traction. I personally had two that blew out the sidewalls. The first time that happened was as I was returning from the second year race at Talledega. The very inner ply was all that remained and the tire stayed up but what a scary ride.
