If I had the money to buy Chrysler...
I'd turn it into a limited distributorship for specialty MOPARs. I'd keep the design staff who worked on the Charger/Challenger/Magnum/300 and SRT line including the Viper and SRT10 RAM. I'd keep all the facilities open that were associated with these cars and totally scrap everything else. Then I would concentrate on bringing back the Plymouth line and get the Cuda back on the block. Of course the Charger would be made to look more like the original and the GTX, Coronet, Superbird and RoadRunner would be back in action!
A few of my first concepts would be an SRT minivan that all the MOPAR family guys would be proud to show up at the soccer field driving. Then there'd be the true Hemispherical HEMI crate motor project. Can you say Daytona SRT8?? I knew you could. The Tomahawk motorcycle would be in production and the cheap sleeper optioned vehicle would be back weighing in at 3000lbs. and packing no fewer than 350 RWHP (gotta leave something for the after market guys to play with. That would generate the sales and volume to keep everything else selling.
Maybe I buy the rights to Olds and Buick and bring back the 442 and GS cars. And for you Greenies out there I'd also try some sort of coop with Tesla Cars and bring a kick-A$$ electric muscle car concept to market.
What say you??

Yeah, I know, but the more I think about it the more I think it could actually work. Take the bail-out money and don't put a dime of it towards anything but SRTs and muscle. Then liquidate everything else for added capital. If Chrysler is forced into bankruptcy, it will come out the other end a much smaller operation, anyway. They should change their market strategy completely and go Specialty Nostalgia Vehicles. Not only build up their own legends from the past but also become the behind-the-scenes Skunk works for Ford and GM.
I'd hire Chip Foose and Troy Trepanier as consultants and the guys from the Eleanor Mustang project. Imagine giving those guys an automated factory to churn out their ideas on. Foose has experience working with the rapid prototyping industry but due to the low volume of custom rods they have always had to build them by hand making them crazy expensive. Now they have the robots and specialist to create full production lines AND THE WORLD WOULD BE A BETTER PLACE. AND THERE'D BE PEACE ON EARTH!! AND THE MIDDLE EAST WOULD.....hey, the wife just called me for dinner...

I like the idea, and of course had a similar thought myself. "I should buy Chrysler and make only the awesome cars." Converting a huge company to a niche automaker would involve a lot of painful cuts and layoffs though. I don't have the $$ to buy it either of course One might be better off trying to revive another nameplate or even start a new company, rather than convert a huge corporate behemoth down to a low-volume enthusiast brand.

Yeah but then you run into the problem of purchasing rights and trademark/copy rights etc. The down sizing will be taken care of by the bankruptcy.
