speedtv has a video posted where they say they went 170.

 

i thought Chrysler said the top end was 174mph

 

I've always heard 170. On the speed tv episode they say they hit 170 but dont show it on the dash. They do show a few miles an hour below.

 

maybe it was the 300 that could hit 174

My limiter was set at 180 mph when I got it new, and is still set the same way. You are right that our cars have a reported top speed of 174.

 

Chrysler had reported a top speed of 174.4 actually. I remember this speed clearly. Even though the rear gear is relatively very low, they make up the difference in the transmission. I would believe you run out of gearing around 174 mph due to the tranny ratios. I'm not an engineer but I would believe a 306 rear gear ratio could easily see 230 mph with the right gearing in the tranny.
