Default SRT hood struts

I would really appreciate it if an SRT8 owner could give me some information on the gas hood struts. I would like to have what ever markings (part #, mfg. name) are on them and some measurements (open length, cylinder length). With my R/T on the way "soon", i am planning on adding them since Chrysler axed them from the R/T models.

Thanks!

Gas charged hood support cylinder kit.
This is a simple installation, just screw in the ball stud into the hole in the inner fender and snap the cylinders on both ball studs of the fender and hood hinge.

Kit contains the following items:
1- PT# 5065278AD Cylinder
1- PT# 5065279AD Cylinder
2- PT# 6507889AA Ball Stud
Geniune OEM MOPAR replacement parts.

Thanks! That certainly seems reasonable. Although the challenger isn't shown in the application list, i imagine it would still work.

The parts arrived from MOPAR and it took me less than 5 minutes to install the hood struts.

On the R/T and S/E models............The stud on the hood itself is already there from the factory.

You then have to install the new studs on the body, the hole is already there. (A 1/2 inch socket works great.)

You then need to use a small flat screwdriver to slide away the retaining clips on the ends of the strut.

Then place the strut ends on to the studs and then push the retaining clip back down - then it will grab the stud.

Make sure that you keep the prop rod in place through out this installation so that the hood doesn't fall.

Another tip: You'll need to raise the hood higher than the prop rod position by placing a rag on the end of the prop rod.

In the end, the hood opens and closes with ease. I decided to leave the prop rod in place - just in case of a failure of the struts.

The total cost was around $60.00

This was for two gas charged struts and two studs.

One more thing....the struts are two different parts numbers, but appear to be identical.

I was not able to figure out which one was for which side, but it works perfectly, so I do not think it matters.

Parts were ordered this morning. Having the part numbers in hand made it a snap. Thanks again. The parts man said that it would be 1 to 3 days.

My parts came in today and I just finished putting them on. Couldn't have been easier. Nice improvement. The studs took a 13MM wrench to put them on, 1/2 was too tight. The packages that the struts came in had a different part number than the ones ordered. So. the numbers had been superceded. The passenger side strut was 04589606AA and driver's side was 04589607AA. The studs part number had not changed.
