Unhappy Tax and inflation

I didn't know whether to laugh or cry while doing my income taxes the other day. In Texas, you're allowed to write off state sales tax on your federal income tax, if the total tax reaches a certain level. Hence, I dug out my paperwork from the '09 Challenger and found I'd paid almost $1,300 in sales tax. In 1974, I paid just $300 more -- a flat $1,600 (t, t and l included) -- for my entire '70 Challenger. To make matters worse, even having paid the sales tax on the '09 wasn't enough to reduce my '08 income taxes any.

Hey, I found out recently that I was robbed at $1,600. Someone noted they knew of a 340 Challenger in 1974 that was going for $1,500. Mine was just a 318.

The sales tax here on new vehicles is 3 percent. I did not pay much in tax considering I traded in a 2008 Mustang GT for my Challenger I only paid tax on the trade difference.

I paid about 8 percent on the Challenger. The dealership I bought the car from is technically just outside San Antonio, so otherwise it would have been, I think, 8.25 percent. At least I saved a few bucks.
