Good for you. One thing is that you can find most version of the bible available in the One Year Bible. It bascially breaks up the bibile in 365 day increments.

This helps so you don't have to have one of those one year guide sheets that tell you what to read on what day.

You might try the NIV version as it is in easy to read modern day English.

You can also get the Bible on CD's so you can listen to it while you drive. This helps some people.

I am a visual learner so reading is better for me. I did see a DVD of the book of Matthews tonight. It was awesome because
everything out of the actor mouth was verbatim from the Bible. Great for following along and you got awesome visuals......like the boat in the storm
with Jesus in the boat. Totally awesome!

Actually, I believe my parents already have such a list. I already have a Bible that has a more modern translation. I thank you though for the suggestion. We were looking into getting a Bible on CD for Christmas, but we were unable to find a Catholic version. I hope they eventually make one.

If you're spiritually alive, you're going to love this! If you're
Spiritually dead, you won't want to read it. If you're spiritually
Curious, there is still hope!

Why Go To Church?

A Church goer wrote a letter to the editor of a newspaper and complained
that it made no sense to go to church every Sunday. "I've gone for 30
years now," he wrote, "and in that time I have heard something like
3,000 sermons. But for the life of me, I can't remember a single one of
them. So, I think I'm wasting my time and the pastors are wasting theirs
by giving sermons at all."

This started a real controversy in the "Letters to the Editor" column,
much to the delight of the editor. It went on for weeks until someone
wrote this clincher:

"I've been married for 30 years now. In that time my wife has cooked
some 32,000 meals. But, for the life of me, I cannot recall the entire
menu for a single one of those meals. But I do know this .. They all
nourished me and gave me the strength I needed to do my work. If my wife
had not given me these meals, I would be physically dead today.
Likewise, if I had not gone to church for nourishment, I would be
spiritually dead today!" When you are DOWN to nothing.... God is UP to
something! Faith sees the invisible, believes the incredible and
receives the impossible! Thank God for our physical AND our spiritual
nourishment!

All right, now that you're done reading, send it on! I think everyone
should read this! "When Satan is knocking at your door, simply say,
"Jesus, could you get that for me?

The same can be said about reading the Bible. You may not remember what you read in the Bible over the last few years,
or just like you will not remember what what you ate a few years ago. However, your body needed that nourishment and it
helped keep it strong. Just like your spiritual side will be strong from reading the Bible even though you may not remember what you read
years later.

Good points; however, I do remember many sermons that I have heard. They stick in my mind and the point is taken. Maybe I'm unusual about this, but I partly chose the church where I currently attend because my priest tells good sermons that having meaning that I can understand and relate to. The only sermons I can't remember as well are the ones that the current priest from my hometown tells, but that is because he has a very, very, very heavy accent and I find it sometimes hard to understand, but he is still a good priest anyways.

True character is revealed not by what a man does when people are watching but by what he does when nobody is around.

Point Man – Week #6 A Bible study on a man leading his family based on the Steve Farrar book.

Sorry I missed doing a lesson last week but the last few weeks were busy and last weekend was Easter Sunday and the significance of Easter is the basis of all Christianity.

A couple of weeks ago we talked about how God’s word is food to our spiritual being to strengthen us just like food you eat strengthens our physical body.
This week we will talk about “aerobic kneeling”. Kneeling means to to go down or rest on one or both knees.

Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

As we proceed forward here are 3 assumptions to be made:

1. The Christian Life is not a 100-yard dash. It is a marathon.
2. In the Christian Life, it’s not how you start, it’s how you finish.
3. Spiritual self-starters train aerobically.

Men who want to lead their families effectively must become spiritual self-starters. We previously covered the first minimum requirement for being a spiritual self-starter and that is meditating on Scripture. Now we will cover the second requirement.

Hebrews 12:1 Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us,

Living the Christian Life is not a short race, it is a marathon – an endurance race.
Marathoners don’t need starting blocks, they just need to finish the race. In the Christian Life, what is important is not how you start but how you finish.

Two aspects of training your body is strength and cardio training. But for longevity, cardio or endurance training should be your life long goal. This improves all life long aspects of your body. In the spiritual realm, the exercise is aerobic kneeling or prayer.

Prayer is to the soul what exercise is to the body. A spiritual self-starter is a man who is in good spiritual shape by:

1. Feeding his spirit by reading the Scriptures
2. Consistently spending time in prayer

Prayer is the exercise of the man who is a spiritual self-starter. A marathon runner trains and eats correctly as the Christian Life should be balanced with reading the scriptures and spending time in prayer. The man who studies the Bible without praying will develop a good mind with a cold heart. The man who prays without knowing Scripture will consistently pray outside the will of God.

So how often does one have to exercise prayer to stay in good spiritual shape? Well the Bible does not say how much in prayer we need to be, but we can apply the same physical requirements to our spiritual. If exercising 30-40 minutes 3 to 4 times a week will keep us in good condition then we should at least be in prayer and reading scripture this same amount of time per week. Ideally, just as we feed our bodies every day, it should not be difficult to spend 10 minutes in prayer asking God to reveal himself to you in His words before reading the scriptures for 30-40 minutes, then pray another 10 minutes afterwards asking that the words you read will speak truth into your life. That is 365 hours in one year you will spend one on one time with the Lord.

1 Timothy 4:7-8 “ ….. train yourself to be godly. For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come.

What is being said here is physical training is important but spiritual training is more important because

I look forward to your post each week and I will reread this post next week. Words to live by and the results of the power of prayer. Its not always what we percieve in our minds for our prayer to be answered. But if we let it play out we will see that it is the answer GOD gave us. His will be done, always. We must accept that answer and we will see it is the right course that we should take. If in prayer we ask for something, then remember.... we are asking and the answer might be no. Thanks for the post and have a great week.

Important lesson learned. I fulfill the prayer part, but what I need is to spend more time in scripture so then I know how better to pray and what specifically. Thanks, and don't worry Jeremiah. I've also been busy, you deserve some time off. Enjoy your vacation.

RLSH700 and lear4406.......you guys are too kind.

I really appreciate your support in all of this and if I can make a difference in a few mens and their families lives then it will be all worth it.

I think what happens is that as you grow spiritually, it makes you want to share what you have experienced and what God has done in your life
and at the same time help others.

The Great Commission is all about spreading his word to everyone and I am just trying to be obedient.

You guys have a great week!

My thoughts is a family is composted, most of the time, of a man and a wife. With this there has to be give and take between the two and always commutation.
