There are several good sites that have rated oil filters, with some suprising results.

According to the reviews, the oil filters to avoid are:

AC Delco Duraguard
Champ
Fram Extra Guard
Fram Double Guard
Fram High Mileage
Pennzoil
Quaker State
STP

I have read that analysis and from an engineer's point-of-view, it is very in-depth. I use Purolator PureONE filters in all my cars. They're a few bucks more and worth it.

It's interesting to read some of this after I have noticed how Champs quality has gone down and I was beginning to think it was my imagination. Thanks for posting this.
