Especially on the smaller tracks -- specifically those in the half-mile range, where running 42 cars means they're all bumper-to-bumper most of the time anyway -- speed ISN'T that important. They're lucky if they ever get the cars up to 90. That's exactly where they should run REAL cars. Make the necessary safety modifications, paint the cars up in normal NASCAR fashion and run straight pipes instead the the catalyctic converter/muffler exhaust system (for the noise factor) and let people see how the cars most of them buy -- 4-door V-6s -- actually perform against each other. It would be a lot more interesting than watching multimillion-dollar racing machines creeping around a little track.

The time is right for a Stock series with the pony cars ala SCCA from the 70s. Leave them stock and beef up the chasis. I would love to see the driver have to put more input into the driving part. Than say "more wedge" please. Drive it and stop whinimg about the set up. Boy would I love a series like that

I would also love to see it go to that.

Although we agree that the higher output engines may not provide a real advantage on some of the tracks, I still think that the Charger and Impala should feature their V8 engines and the Fusion and Camry should feature the best engines they have offered in the Camry. Granted the Charger and Impala would have the advantage in power, perhaps this will get Ford to get in gear with offering performance again in their mid-sized car offerings and drop in a V6 that produces close to 300hp in their normal production models (say a Fusion SHO). Having a displacement vs. technology match would be interesting, what do you think?

I wonder what the numbers are for starting a racing league? It seems a real Stock Car racing series, would force mfgr's to get off their collective arses and innovate. Have classes. Let them compete at all levels like motorcycles w/ displacement.
