this is what i heard is that 50% of the dealers sold 90% of Chrysler products sold..how true that was i don't know. we are going to have a interesting year, from i know i believe that we will be seeing more chry dealers drop in the next few months...

The answer is probably that there are just too many dealers and none are making the profit they should because of another dealership "just down the road". Less dealerships means more profit for the ones that remain, and that makes for a heathier environment by making their dealerships worth more. It is also easier to control a smaller dealership base in terms of supply, distribution, etc. Just a couple reasons I can think off right of the top.

I don't agree with having these dealerships shut down either. The truth of the matter is the free market can dictate this. I really hate the dealership that is getting shut down in my area, but speaking objectively they sell a whole lot more than the many other dealerships in my area. I don't buy into the belief that it will allow new ones to enter. This strategy makes about as much sense as deciding to get rid of your dealerships in a foreign country because it is increase your sales. It is madness done by fools who don't have a clue what they are doing. If they want to improve the dealerships, train the sales staff to cater better to the customer and adopt a more customer friendly atmosphere.

I just returned from a road trip in the motorhome and passed a handful of closed Chrysler dealers (and a few GM as well)....a really sad sight to say the least.
What's most sad about it is.....it was totally unnecessary no matter how you look at it.
