6.4 .... how do you feel? (08/09 owners)

Well, I think we are on the downside of the power curve. With the push to increase fuel economy (and hey why don't consumers get a choice, oh wait we do many of us buy cars that go fast) the automobile industry will be pushing Prius clones for the next few years. The 6.4 won't help the average fuel economy so they won't build it. I think we are past the small window on muscle car prominence. Dodge may keep a muscle niche but Cerebus has to show Congress they are "changing" to make more fuel efficient cars. But hey if you really want performance you will be able to take the gas/electric motor out of your 2011 Challenger and put in a 429 stroker and really have a hybrid that burns rubber and gas.....

Keep in mind the new administration has dictated 35 mpg by 2011. A 6.4 at 35mpg.

35 is the cafe average. If they build enough cars that get well over 35 mpg the 6.4 could be built. The reality is that they would have to put a ton of Chrysler Corp labeled Fiat's in the model line up to make this happen. The 6.1 may be dead. Heck the 5.7 could me dead but Dodge really needs it for the new Ram which is an amazing truck. Very refined and comfortable but sucks gas.

So far in this thread I have seen people question the durability of the drive line once you go over 500HP; advantages of an extra .3 capacity and valuation of the new Challenger. Oh for shame!!
As for the drive line problems with the LX platform. I live in the land of 600+ HP Challenger that get HAMMERED on a regular with STOCK drive-lines. But these guys are professionals and they don't try to make the cars do the impossible. If you dump the clutch at 5000 rpm YOU WILL BREAK SHHHH'TUFF. If you muff a slap shift and let the rpm drop too far or jump too high YOU WILL BREAK SHHHH'TUFF. If you drag race a passenger car over and over and over again (repeat after me) YOU WILL BREAK (what??) SHHHHH'TUFF.
Just adding .3 liters of capacity across 8 cylinders (or 18 cubic inches, total) isn't the best way to get to 600HP. Most major performance gains are seen when you add somewhere in the neighborhood of 50 cubic inches, total (289 to 347 - 351 to 400+, etc.) Increasing wall thickness and bottom-end strength which then allows for higher rpms and improve head and manifold flow volume/characteristics, cam profiles and engine mapping is what makes HP. Everything I've read or heard about the 6.4 crate motor is that it is a B!TCH to tune for anything but WFO running. Trying to turn it into a production/passenger car engine will be a pain. I'd rather they supercharge the 6.1L.
We are in the worst Recession in recent memory and the entire American auto industry is in trouble and yet the Challengers are still holding near sticker. People are just starting to see them dip below MSRP and even that is happening in pockets. These cars are doing just fine. Lets keep things in perspective, people.

Why doesn't anyone talk about a re-tune and Mds for the 6.1??? You guy's havn't been driving the new Hemi that long obviously... I've had mine since day one of the Semi-Hemi Generation And since that almost 6 years now they've added 45hp to the 5.7 and about 3mpg on gas!!! I'd say that's pretty signifigant... Lets get that done with the 6.1 and we won't need new assembly lines.. they already told us the 5.7 and 6.1 run on the same line... So start making the parts compatible even more so... how about a 475hp from the 6.1 with 16mpg on gas???? That's what I want for 2010... I also think it should be done and can be done... LETS DO IT DODGE...

Not picking knits here, but the finance rate doesn't represent a cut in price. The employee pricing just means the margins are smaller and the $1000 rebate can come from what they 'would' have given you on your trade-in or a serendering of the dealer kick-backs or any number of other places. I do get what you're saying but you are still going to pay over $37k for an SRT8 which ain't cheap. You're right. though, I did say MSRP but these cars are still sellng for more than it cost to manufacture.
