OK I have provided allot of information to the peeps on this site Now I am asking for something in return from all of you.

Please update your 2008/2009 Challenger daily on the Unofficial Dodge Challenger registry http://www.dodgechallengerregistry.com
That includes Correct Status, Correct VIN, Correct Dates, City, State.
Venthos has put allot of effort in this site and the information needs to updated regularly and accurately. Then if you look at it and use the tools provided
you can see how everything is flowing. Remember it is up to ALL OF YOU to update your own cars.
142 people have listed there cars out of 6900 08's and 48 2009's This is a very small percentage. I have told the contacts in the plant about the forum and tracker and some of them are reading it regularly. That is a good thing.

If the Administrator of dodgechallenger.com Could also plaster this link on the front page of this website and in the forums main page that would be a big help.

The 800 number and your Dealer will give you the status and they update at about 9:50 AM EST and 7:50 PM EST Mon- Fri
The Official Challenger tracker updates at 9:50 AM EST Mon- Fri

Thanks

Just out of curiosity, should you all be posting your VIN numbers online? I don't know if car identity theft is possible, but I think I'd be a little concerned about putting out that information.

Ah-HA! Car identity theft IS a problem, our friends at auto-theft.info report:

http://www.auto-theft.info/vin-theft.htm

Auto Identity Theft: Stealing Your Car's VIN

If you're buying a used car, be careful. You could be buying one that has been stolen, thanks to a new crime fad.

We are talking auto identity theft and it's all about stealing Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs).

More than 225-thousand out of one-point-five million vehicles stolen each year are given cloned VIN numbers.

Carfax reports that VIN cloning has cost consumers and insurance companies four billion dollars over the past decade.

Here's how it works: Thieves copy VIN numbers of legal cars, then make new VIN plates for stolen cars. Your VIN, a 17-digit alpha-numeric code is sort of like the Social Security number for the car. State motor vehicle departments requre a vehicle identification number to register a vehicle. Add a faked title and cloned VIN to a stolen vehicle and you've got a sale that might look good, but it isn't.

The victims are hit on both sides -- the stolen number and the unsuspecting buyer of the cloned vehicle.

If you purchase a cloned car police will seize the property and you will lose the money you spent on it. Cloned cars turn up everywhere.

Police say you can protect yourself on the buyer's side by making sure you know the background of who is selling you a vehicle.

Getting a CarFax report on any potential purchase is also a good $15 investment. Don't forget to also check the StolenCarReports database to see if your vehicle has been stolen.

Thieves are less likely to steal and clone a car that will require them to replace all of the windows. For that reason it is worth the $20 investment to purchase a do-it-yourself VIN etch kit or find out when your local police can do this for you.

Well RoswellGrey
I guess you better do a carfax on Chrysler then and dont forget to cover that VIN on your dash. And then your license plates. And all of you that are getting numbered cars cover them up so they cant link you to your VIN. That could be a way to be cloned.

Oh yea don't forget
to where a large pair of sunglasses and a large hat so you don't get recognized when you are out in your car.

For 10 bucks 5 bucks cheaper than a carfax if someone wanted to they could out all of that info and allot more.

All I was trying to do was get people to update there info so everyone can see the progress and how things are shaking out
I guess that the information that I am obtaining and posting using personal information like serial numbers is wrong and I should not do that.

OK

What Budman says pretty much makes the case there, Roswell. Your VIN on *all* cars is readily visible just by peaking in your car's windshield. If anyone cared enough to get your VIN it would take them all of 2 seconds in a parking lot.

Comparing a VIN to a Social Security # has to be the worst analogy ever. Comparing it to "Identify Theft" isn't far behind in crappy analogies either.

I'm unsure as to what you think is going to happen if someone takes your VIN, even if they DO do something malicious with it. The only loser is the person who buys a car that someone faked your VIN onto. Your car (the real car) has no ill effects. I'm unsure as to what you think could possibly happen to you as the verified true owner of the car.

Do you think you'll suddenly get a bill in the mail for someone else's insurance because they stole your VIN? I simply fail to understand even in a worse case scenario what possible negative effect you think you could have.

I'm not trying to come down on you or anything Budman, I was just curious if car ID theft was a problem, and apparently it is. I don't see anything wrong with your registry, except for posting complete VIN numbers. Yeah, VINs can be stolen off cars themselves, but at least a thief has to go to the trouble of walking up to a vehicle, not just copying down numbers from a list online. If I were you, I'd keep compiling my list, but simply not publish the complete VINs. Maybe just partials or something.

Well, Venthos, I know for a fact that in the two states I've lived in (Iowa and Texas), all you need to provide to get a duplicate title is the VIN number. You didn't even have to have the license number. Just the VIN. I was more concerned about something like that.
As I stated originally, I didn't know if it was a problem. I merely copied down what I found. If you feel comfortable posting that information online, feel free. Personally, I wouldn't do it, just to avoid any hassle.

I'm sure you need something like identification or some other method than simply a VIN and nothing else -- would be beyond a poor practice otherwise.

If it was a risky thing to do, then I am unsure as to why Chrysler would endorse it by offering up Bob Frederick's VIN on their official blog site http://www.redletterdodge.com/2008/0...s-car-for-fun/ for everyone to use so they could track his car. I'm sure neither Chrysler nor Bob would appreciate any wrong doing. So if Chrysler themselves are confident with posting a VIN, *shrug*.

I'm all for keeping vital information safe. Heck, I see cases of identify theft all too frequently in my job. A VIN is not vital information. That's the point I'm trying to make, that there's a line between reasonable safety and paranoia.
