It kind of depends the MB/Dodge Sprinter has a 5 banger Diesel, that'd probably do it. 
Also begs the question, what's the strongest 6 in production today?

I like it, Daddio! I know you say that in jest, but surely some Mopar mad scientist, had to get some hemi heads mated to a slant 6 somewhere right?

I actually had a '69 barracuda with a 225 Slant six... nice torquey little motor... pretty much bullet proof... and 25-30 mpg. Throw on some performance mods, hemi heads, I think you might have something there...

Back to the original topic, no you made the right decision. I have never wanted the first year models anyways. They have more problems, less options, more recalls, etc. Waiting until they offer more is the more logical way to go if you ask me.
The Phoenix engines are going to replace the 2.7L (finally), 3.3L/3.8L, and 3.5L/4.0L engines (and maybe if I'm lucky the 3.7L as well). No matter what happens with CAFE standards or fuel prices, V8 are still in demand.
