New colors are being teased at www.redletterdodge.com

"And what about future Challenger colors? All I can say right now is that, yes, more of your favorite heritage colors will follow, along other new “exclusive” Challenger colors. Stay tuned…"

"So fear not Mopar Nation, your color requests have been anticipated by Chrysler and we have reacted."

Hope is alive!

The questions remain: Which colors? When? Only in special "Daytona" style packages?

Inquiring minds want to know...

That's nice to hear. However I didn't like that they painted "Daytona" in big letters on the Charger. I hope they don't paint any words on the Challenger when they do make these special editions. Also I hope they don't limit each color run to only 1400 like the Charger. That seems like a really tiny number for a whole nation of over 300 million people. I hate rare, limited edition collectibles because I usually can't even get them.

I think the letters on the side of the Daytona were alright looking.

I have said this time and time again. For those of us hoping to get a low production number Challenger in the color of our choice may be unattainable, and therefore will not fork over 45K for none. Chrysler is forcing us either to buy what they are willing to build (sic color) or not. I do not completely understand what they are thinking, but I think it is clear what the people are thinking - Color Choice. Perhaps a struggling company just can not contract more than three colors for their "hot" cars. Perhaps they are trying to extend the anticipation - all the while they may lose more enthusiasm than they foster. Some, regretably, like me make choices with more than desire in mind. I look at the whole package, of which color features prominently. It is almost as if Chrysler is forcing people to buy the more fuel efficient versions - gee, I think I have the start of a conspiricy theory. 8^)

Well, hmm, see ya all in 2010 (hopefully by then I can get a low production Challenger in the color I want). (I almost sound bitter - I guess frustration will do that to a person)

^What's the big deal about having a low production number?

It still amazes me that people aren't more appreciative that Chrysler even built the Challenger. Think about it, how many other cool concept cars were never built ?

Be happy and order one that they are building !!

I thought the same thing the first time I read that. I had to look twice.

I don't think he means low production number as in collector numbers like they're putting on the '08 SRTs. I think he means low production number as in very few made. For example, if you want a classic "Panther Pink" Challenger, chances are you are in the very small minority. Making Chalengers in any particular color means making enough of that color to justify the cost. They can make thousands of black ones and red ones and sell them all. But if they makes thousands of pink ones they're likely to have trouble selling them.

Making just a few of any color drives the cost up for that color, so they're playing it safe and only making the ones that'll sell a lot of copies. We're all hoping that they'll take a chance on a few colors that might not be very traditional, but we think will sell well enough to justify their expense.

WhiteHeat, you are correct. If the color I want is not popular enough then it will never come to production. I suspect there has to be some tipping point where the color makes sense. Look at how many peole have screamed for Sublime, or Plum Crazy but where are those colors? Subsumed by red and gray probably.

npeifer - Perhaps I am a bit more disciminating than you. I understand where you are coming from perhaps you could meet me half way.
Am I appreciative that Chrysler even built the Challenger? Well, sure, kind of maybe. I am "pleased" perhaps, but "appreciative" maybe not. They are not doing me a favor. Don't forget if I want this car, I am the one who has to help augment their R&D. Perhaps they should be appreciative that I would forego my wishes and purchase one of thier poorly managed color selections. Otherwise, they would go out of business.
But why do a half a$$ job is the real question. I would have thought they would complete the action by delivering on the whole product -interior and colors too -that "Mopar Nation" wants first and then produce the stuff "that look good on all Chrysler products". Pa lease. its a luxury *appreciative* indeed.

Oh, and it would not be a bad idea to get a low build number either, there are bragging rights in having one before the next guy 8^) Actually, I would like both. a low production build number and a low production color choice. Seems I better not hold my breath for either.

Ok, I'll will duct now to avoid the cross fire (Oh, stike that, they killed that car too.)

Ciao

I, too, would like to know what the "critical mass" is for making a profit on a new color. In Dodge's defense, I can understand their being a little cautious with the colors. What if the Challenger doesn't sell as well as we all think it will? Gas prices, MSRP, Camaro, whatever the reason. I wouldn't want to be stuck with a lot full of odd colored cars I couldn't sell. The only thing worse than getting stuck with a white elephant is getting stuck with a purple, lime or pink elephant!

Look at how many peole have screamed for Sublime, or Plum Crazy but where are those colors?
I'm hoping for Top Banana, but I'll be happy with another color. I'd really like to see them offer Plum Crazy and Sublime. I don't want one of those, but an awful lot of folks do! I'd like to see them get their wish! Besides, I want to see the Challenger be successful and I can't imagine those colors not selling. I've heard such an outcry for them! I've got to believe the powers that be have heard it as well!

I will bet the farm that there will be Sub-lime and Plum-crazy. Now with that said... you will have to be patient for it to come around. If I've said this once I know I've said it a 1000 times" be patient"! Why is it in america you see the I want it all and I want it now. And again I'm 48 years old, die hard Mopar man. Thats all I own. I've been waiting 35 years for a new Dodge Challenger and guess what... I can wait a little longer to get the price and the color I want. I'm even waiting until 2009 or longer for the manual transmission. I'd like to know if you are young guys that have always complained until you got what you want or another reason. The fact that its built at all is remarkable in its self. 73Cuda340 I am appreciative that Dodge made the Challenger and with the attitude you have towards me me me. Well it ain't about you. Its about all of us. If you don't buy one the next guy in line will. Please do us a favor and buy another brand... I don't think I want to hear your complaints when you get one and it does'nt do every little thing you think it should. Or has a blimish or two. Not perfect in every way. So please decide to go with the new Camaro or a Mustang GT I don't want to hear the whining and crying that is to come. Just gets old after a while[>:] Night shift is making me grumpy or what.[X(]
