It doesn't sound like that will be the case, wallstreetman. If you want a GT500 or top level Camaro instead just because it might be faster, then I suggest you just get one and leave it at that. Whether or not the Challenger is faster, I still prefer it.

RE: Why the 6.1L Challenger could be faster than the GT500
It seems to me that we are not comparing apples to apples here. The GT500 and Shelby GT may be faster than the 6.1 litre hemi challenger, however they are both BLOWN! if you were to put even a small supercharger on any hemi it's game over. We should look how it stacks up to z28's ,formulas and mustang GT's to judge how it performs.
We will leave it to the SS challenger or the cuda to blow the doors off any factory mustang, without being blown! Finally the 6.1 litre challenger will (god willing) be priced from 32-35 thousand where the GT500 and shelbyGT will be 10,000 dollars more. Apples to apples I believe you get more performance per dollar with the challenger.
P.S. Using the SS tag on any Mopar is WRONG!!!!!!!!! [:'(]

Secondly, the "SS Challenger" is just a rumor for now so you can't use it in a comparison until it has been offically confirmed.
Thirdly, it is better to compare stock to stock because otherwise it leads to a never ending debate, believe me, we have had too many of those over the Viper. If victory can be won using a small improvement such as a cold air intake, then that is more acceptable because turboes, superchargers, and NOS complete changes things completely.
