Default Anti-sway bars

Anybody have any idea why on the '73 model Challlenger they did not put anti-sway bars on that car.

I remember that was one of the mods I made was to buy anti-sway bars from JC Whitney and put them on.

Boy, did it help a lot in cornering.

1 Bad Mirada:

I also have a Mirada that I'm building up right now. '81, white w/t-tops. Im currently running a mild 360, but i wanted to ask you a few questions about what might work with my Mirada. Its a strip only car for now. I was wondering what models have a manual steering box that will swap in? What do you use? Im converting to 8 3/4 and have a housing, its a 741 centre case, which i plan on ditching, but what type of housing do you use, A or B body?

Any pointers are welcome!

Thanks

Got me. When I bought my '86 Monte Carlo SS it was missing a rear sway bar. Just adding a small 3/4" bar helped tremendously. I ended up doing major work and getting heavier bars down the road - but anti-sway bars (or even upgrading the ones you have) are about the best bang for the buck for handling.

I'm not positive on this but, a Rallye Challenger would have the handling package. It would be a crap shoot on the base. If you had the 340 then I would think a sway bar would be on it. If a 318 came in the car then more likely no sway bar. The 340 was the premium engine by 73 and 360 by 74. I have heard of some 400s in the Cudas 73-74. But a base Challenger would need someone to pay for and check off that option. I would think the disk brakes and power steering would be there with the sway bars as a total package, but with Mopar that is not a given. I have seen some odd pairing.

I've heard about certain challengers not having the front sway bar, i bet it didn't handle very well. The T/A's and AAR's were the very few that had both front and rear sway bars.

I agree with Lordfoul, when I added a rear sway bar to mine last year, it made a huge difference. Once I felt the difference, I wonder why that didn't put them in all of the models from the get go. It would most certainly been worth the extra money back then to have one installed.
