Default Forget about your ORDERED Challenger

If you people really think you will see a ORDERED 2008 or 2009 Challeninger
you have to be NUTS......
Most of the Challengers are already Allocated to the Dealers.
You have the Big dealers that sell many cars that will see a few Challengers on their lots
But the Small dealers that don't sell many might not even see a Challenger at all....

Now for the people that have ordered a 2008 or future 2009 Challengers will have problems....
First off I am sure the Dealers will get their allocated cars FIRST.It can be 1000 or it can
be 10,000 Challengers.......
So lets say 8000 are allocated for the dealers.
It will maybe leave 2000 for the people that have tried to order one.
So all you people that think you were first inline will be seeing a brand new challenger will be
very disapointed.
Allocation and ordering are TWO different things.
Dealers will be happy to take your deposit on the cars because it has nothing to do with their allocation.
And they are holding onto your money.....
My answer is try and buy the car when it first hitsssss the dealers showrooms and maybe you can get lucky
and get the car for MSRP or cheaper.
But for the people that have ordered a 2008 will be very disapointed when you see you dealer get a few cars
in and yours has yet to be built.......................JT

I'm not sure where and how you get your information, but that overall statement makes very little sense.
Why would Dodge make 2009 Challengers to sit in a dealership showroom - uncomitted, when they have orders for definite sales? Isn't a company in business to make money? Do they make money building cars for the dealer, or the customer/buyer?
I could see having at least one car at the dealership for "hands-on" purposes (touch, feel and test drive). But to have Brampton building cars that the dealers are alotted before ones they've "sold" makes no economic sense.
Having the smaller dealerships doing without ANY Challengers to sell also makes no sense. How do smaller dealerships become big dealerships? Certainly NOT by vacating a slot that's in demand by the buying public. If Dodge's dealerships don't survive, how does Dodge? How does Dodge grow? By denying dealerships a product that they can definitely sell? Doesn't make sense.

There may be a hint of truth to what you're saying, but I can't understand the logic behind accepting your statements "en toto". I don't think "the whole story" is unfolding - yet.

An amazingly uneducated bunch of speculation and hyperbola from a first time poster. [8D]

Yep I am a 1st time poster but does that mean that I am wrong?
Yep it does sound crazy if you have 10,000 people ordering a 2008
Challenger,Then they should be getting the cars without any problems.
And the dealers should not see any if I am corrent because all the cars are Pre sold..........
Yep I want to get a Challenger but I know If I ordered one on the first day when they were taking orders,I know
I would have had problems..........
I ordered a 2006 Stang Gt the first day that Ford was taking orders.....
Yep the dealer had no problem taking my order and the manager and Salesmanager said I
was the first to order a 2006 Stang Gt and it will be the first Stang Gt that they get in stock......
Now going 4 months foward
I kept calling fords 800# to see how my new Stang Gt was doing,,,but everytime the recording would say my
order was still in LIMBO.
But the dealer got about 5 Stang Gts in and was selling them over MSRP and mine was still in limbo....
Dealer told me that these cars are for his allocation and if I wait longer I will be able to get the car soon(what a freaking lie}
Yes I feel everyone that ordered a 2008 Challenger should get one,,,,,But now knowing about dealer allocations I would say few if any will see the car.
Unless you want to buy it off your friendly Dodge dealer for over MSRP......
Now if I didnot have that problem and others had that same problem....
I would be putting a order in for a Challenger butttttt knowing what I went though.I would never order a limited car
as the challenger.....................JT

Could it be that the dealer received your pre-ordered car, and sold it for more than MSPR to someone else?! [:@]

did you put down a cash deposit? Dodge announce every dodge dealer would get at least one. That said you'd better be first in line on 12/3. And yes some people will not get one, but they know who they are, they were second, third and fourth on the totem pole.

Yep the dealer got 5 cars in and a Black Stang Gt that I wanted, but the inside color and wheels were different.
Yes I put a credit card deposit on the car and I had a signed contract from the owner of the dealership.
I would not believe a word that each dealership will get at least 1 car even if it was from dodge.
With Fard and I am sure with GM and Dodge
You can call a 800# up and give the infomation of the dealer# and the order Order# to see where you car is at....
In my case with Ford as I said the Recording said my car was in LIMBO at the time while the dealer was getting in Stang gts at the time...
The ones that have a contract thats signed from the salesmanager and up for a 2008 Challenger
Should call or find out if there is a 800# to see if they will see their cars anytime soon...............
I would not call the dealer because they don't have any idea or don't want to find out....
Just a tad of advise,,,,a phone call does not hurt.JT

I think we're comparing apples to oranges here.
2008 SRT8 Challengers are a limited production run - 6,400 units. We know that right up front. Part of that is to maintain exclusivity, and part is because of the limited time they'll have to produce those cars before normal retooling occurs for the next model year.
The 2009 Challengers are not supposed to be limited production. The first few months will allow the Brampton plant to optimize production and expand the line to include two more trim levels. They MAY even expand to three shifts for the Challenger if production doesn't meet demand.

I have a friend (in Jacksonville, FL) who ordered an '05 GT. This was before they indicated intent to make the GT500. I also have a friend who works (or worked - not sure if he's still there) at Shenandoah Ford in Front Royal, Virginia. Anyway, Ford was NOT accepting orders on '05 GT's from employees for discount UNLESS customer orders were met first. Ford had problems with heads warping on the GT V8 engine, then with low-speed chatter (at steering wheel lock) in the front end. Both of these issues slowed production significantly. Long story short - My friend in Florida GOT his Mustang almost 5 months after ordering it, and my friend (who was an employee, mind you) had to wait for his until the '06 model year.

As was suggested by cncpt2prod!, I think you got shafted by your dealer because of a combination of his greed and low production numbers caused by manufacturing/engineering issues at Ford.
I don't see this happening with Dodge. Cerberus is all about efficiency since they're an investment firm, not a quasi-beaurocracy like Ford. However, each dealership has to be judged on it's own merits. Look at the prices on the '08 SRT8 Challengers. Some are selling at MSRP - others, as much as $30K over.
You just need to do the leg work to get the right deal at the right place.

I sell Dodges and the origional poster is grossly misinformed. If you have a VIN for your order, you'll be seeing your car. We only have one car that actually has a VIN, but we're hoping Dodge sends us one or two more because we're a very high volume store.

Just because you ordered a car from a dealership that is either shady or doesn't know what they're doing, doesn't mean all dealerships are like that. Our dealership is very active in the community, doing charity work, and keeping an honest image. When we have people buy from us, we don't want to earn their business for the one sale. We want their business for the rest of their life, so it's not really good to lie or be shady with them. Doesn't work out too well now a days.
