Times have certainly changed. High schools are afraid of getting sued and I remember that day and does my butt that going to the principals office struck fear into each one of us. I will remember the paddle with the 4 1" holes and the wood that was ribbed. My butt remembers how slow each one of those 10 pops were with about 5 seconds between each one to let the pain sink in. My knuckles all cracked as they held on the desk.

Getting back to the subject of automatic vs. manual -- and more importantly, 440 vs. Hemi -- someone has an excellent video on YouTube.com of two 1966 Chargers racing. The 440 auto dominates off the line and apparently reaches the finish line first because the Hemi 4-speed appears to pull ahead near the end of the video.
