if the r/t has the upgraded 5.7 mds and is around 32k (33k for the vert) there is no way i'll refuse. I may not have a choice because the vert may only come in base and r/t.

I think you're gonna be REALLY disappointed when you find out the $1,000.00 additional cost for a convertible you're planning on is WAY off.
Ford is charging an additional $4,800.00 over the base coupe prices for the "optional" ragtop - on both the GT and the Shelby models.

And the upgraded 5.7 VCT motor with MDS will ONLY be available on the 5-speed autostick Challengers. The refreshed 5.7L VCT engine in front of the 6 speed manual TREMEC gearbox will not offer MDS - or remote start.

Its only money. Yea i'll be going with the auto and hey if they decide to shelf the vert i'll be very happy w/ the coupe. No worrys.

Overpowered

Looks like the RT and lower models will/may get the benefit of Dodge's Lifetime Limited Powertrain Warrantee.


The SRT's pay more to get all the other options, but lose this coverage feature - guess that goes in the value/pro side of getting an RT just like the avoidance of the gas guzzler tax, better gas mileage and cheaper insurance.

Yeah, that keeps surfacing. I was originally on auto pilot for SRT (even if it went to the mid to high 40's, beyond that and I was out). But the more you hear about a GG tax, no lifetime warranty, stronger RT engine in the works, Man, it makes the RT look a lot more attractive, if one were to be inclined one could bring up gas mileage (but that doesn't figure into the equation for me, this car beyond any threshold in my mind or judgment for that to weigh in). I guess what I may do is take both out for a spin in mid 09 and see if the extry cash is worth it.

To that end, makes you wonder what test driving these will be like (and when I say this I mean how many dealers will allowing them in 09 on SRT's).

It kind of warrants the investment in a track day to drive the SRT how it's supposed to be drived. Then hit the dealer up for the new and improved RT test drive see if there a 20ish percent difference in performance and appreciable experience.

The RT is really looking better and better.

If a lot of buyers get swayed into buying the 2009 R/Ts, I wonder how brisk the sales will be on the SRTs? Maybe we will be able to get better deals on them. [sm=smiley25.gif]

I think you WILL be able to get a better deal on the SRT8's - initially. As is the norm, if the R/T raises the performance bar, the SRT8 can't be far behind. Why pay a substantial premium for marginally better performance?

Since the 6.1L is actually the 5.7L with reworked top-end, and the 5.7 has been refreshed which yields comparable HP and torque numbers as the 6.1L, I can foresee Dodge dropping the 6.1L entirely and going to the 6.4L for the SRT8 badge in 2010.

I agree but one wonders how cafe is going to influence future hp increases for the srt8 to the masses. Maybe they will offer some real limited edition stuff for the over 500hp crowd.
