Hey man, welcome to the forum!

The only Challenger that's gonna "smoke" an `07 GT would be the SRT with the 6.1 liter HEMI....but you're gonna need to fork over at least $14-$15K more for the Challenger. Looking online you can get a base model `07 GT for about $26 (MSRP), the SRT will go for at least $40K I'm guessing, when all the dust settles. The 5.7 liter HEMI (when they come out with it in the `09 MY) will certainly give the GT a run for it's money, but I doubt it'll give your buddy the whoopin he so richly deserves.

Some noobish questions for you dudes.

I really want a car that's gonna smoke my roomate's mustang gt (07) and my buddy's subaru wrx (non sti). After having watched vanishing point and talking extensively with a buddy of mine who had several challengers back in the early seventies I've decided this is the car for me.

Is the 6.1 going to be enough to meet my "requirements"?

I already have a savings account started to put together a $20k downpayment. Going to take me a couple, maybe three years to get enough in there to do this. I'm hoping I can get one out the door for no more than 40. Am I in for a rude awakening?

Well that's unfortunate. I really like the Challenger but 40 is my limit. And I don't want the 5.7. If it's more than 40 I'll just give up and get a mustang and mod it. Maybe supercharge it. Still would be well under 40 and probably be just as fast as the 6.1.

Again, please keep in mind I'm only speculating about price. We'll see what happens when this baby finally debuts next Spring. Also, some time in calendar year 2009 the all-new Camaro should hopefully be out. That could always be an option for you as well. I guess it just depends on how patient you can remain.

I think that the new Camaro will benefit us by giving the general public more purchase options. They will be able to buy a 2009 Camaro or a Mustang (perhaps cheaper) than the Challenger.

More competiton=Less demand= better Challenger price for us.

I still think that we will only get the pricing and options for the 1st 5K cars which I will not buy anyway but it certainly will be nice to get a heads up on the ther 15K cars they will make in July.
