I'm pretty hooked up with my dealer who is a die hard Moparman, 70 Hemicuda-900 miles, 69 daytona-16,000 miles, 66 hemi Coronet-33000 miles. According to him no dealer should really be taking money for Challenger orders. You can be put on a list and if they honor that list is up to them. He has promised Challengers to myself and one other guy, that's it. He was figuring he could probably get only two if the demand is going to be high. I also pay a hair over dealer cost on cars from him, I got an 06 Charger R/T for well under 30k that stickered for 35xxx, I'm not supposed to say the exact amount. Anyway I know of a Harley dealer that got into deep sh#* for taking deposits up to 3 years in advance on bikes when they were really hot. They'd be making interest on all these deposits! Well, H-D found out and cut their bike allowance in half. Needless to say they sold the dealership about 2 years later.

BAP_WORKER do you have a numbers of production vehicles or even a clue? I have been hearing between 2000-4000 SRT-8 versions and then no more than 10000 for the first year. My cousin who works at Chrysler told me to be prepared to be gouged at the dealer for the SRT-8. I put my money where my mouth is and put a retainer down on a Challenger to ensure I get a low production number, prefferably an SRT-8. My cousin also told me that that was foolish because the dealers could care less about putting down cash now - they will still sell to the highest bidder. Well, I sure hope not. I am starting to get discouraged. I want an SRT-8 version, but am now beginning to think only movie stars and Corporate executives will be able to afford the mark-up. There has to be a way to get an early producton vehicle without being screwed.
Any thoughts -

That countdown is to the announcement at Chicago I believe. It doesn't mean you can buy one that day...to the best of my knowledge. It might mean you can put money down to hold one though. Also, I'm not sure it'll be that easy to sell 30K-50K of these as someone said. A 2-door is not practical these days so it may not be as easy as you think to see that quantity.
Do people care about practicality, no they don't. If they did, nobody would buy a Hummer, Porche, Lambo, Ferrari, etc. What practicality do these vehicles have in the U.S. none, you can't do 200 on a freeway( at least in the US), Hummers, who do you know that buys one actually takes it rock climbing. Two door cars may not be practical to some, but some still want a two door muscle car, example being a Mustang, people have bought them since they came out and it still goes on. Mopar fanatics wanted a two door muscle car ever since the news of the Charger coming out, people were disappointed when it showed up as a four door. Now they are finally getting something they have asked for, not because its a two door muscle car, but because it resembles the old Challenger, only modern version. If they came out with what they did in the early 80's mituisbishi version, believe me it would have been a disaster.

Hello All! Long time lurker, first time poster.

Just wanted to interject a thought...

I think the vintage revival is a product of the Baby Boomers becoming the Empty Nesters. Many of those old enough to remember the original Challenger, Charger, Camaro and Mustang fondly no longer have a need for back seat passengers. Once the kids are out of college they may want to recapture a little youth, you know?

That is all. Secure conning tower. Back to periscope depth.

mopar440...I don't disagree that there is a lot of passion around this car and the fact that Chrysler is building a 2-door muscle car is great but is there enough demand to sell 30-40,000 of these per year? Especially considering that the Camaro is hot on it's heals. How can the market support this? Demand will fall. Sure, selling the first ones in 09 shouldn't be a problem but what about 2010 and 40K of them? Not so easy I'd imagine.

I understand what you are saying, however, if you look at the age group of the survey on this forum most of the people interested in this car
are either in their 20's or 40's. I guess the 30 year olds are not interested......just kidding.

As far as practicality goes, I think it depends if you are single or have a family. If you are single, then driving a Porsche to work is all you need......and there is still
room for the groceries and your girlfriend. Who needs anything else?

you can't do 200 on a freeway
Well you are not supposed to do 100mph either but most cars do.

If you are a family man and you drive one of these monsters home........when your wife sees it.........your are toast. LOL!

My tiny wife drive a F150 Supercrew. Why? 1. She always has liked trucks 2. She can see out of it better and farther down the road in front of her.

Is that practical for her.......well maybe not to you or I but to her it is? So it depends on the perspective you look from.

Hi !!! No real news to pass along regarding the Challenger. We are off this week due to "inventory adjustment " requirements. I have not heard any solid Challenger production numbers being tossed around and have yet to see any physical changes in the Plant to handle the Challenger coupe. At least our little labour "disagreement " has been settled and things should begin to really move ahead...unless DaimlerChrysler sells to some foriegn evil empire..or even a domestic one..I'll pass along any info when I can !!!!
2008 pilot 300's , Magnums and Chargers are running through now, lots of US Police Chargers too ( Watch your speed gentlemen, they will catch you !!! )

New to this forum, but as a Dodge dealership, i might be of some help to some of the people here who want to order these cars as soon as they become available. Remember, there will be 2 or 3 ordering periods in which the major dealerships will have first shot, then the rest of the 5Stars will get their chance then the remainder of the dealerships. If you are wanting a low number production, you will have to look the the monster dealerships first. they will be ordering larger amounts therefore getting the first runs. I ordered a Daytona For a customer within 5 minutes of it becoming available on the order bank and she ended up gettin 1477 out of 1500.

I am one of the Premier 5 Stars in the southeast , within a week of ordering this car , There were some already on the ground in St Louis.

The Challenger is going to be the same way. I will place orders for customers immediatly upon the availability number and order banks allowing it. But to take an order now would really be foolhardy in that all that can happen will be that someone gets upset.
When I order I will Order in the name of the Customer , not the dealership to insure that your NAME IS ON THE Maroney Sticker.
