No kidding. I am buying this for my mid-life crisis and can't turn back the clock. If I were 16 again I could wait a bit but 40 is coming on strong. I will not wait although I will grit my teeth if I have to pay above MSRP as my inside man should be able to get me one for sticker.

I totally understand and agree that with age should come patience. My situation is no male in my family has lived past 57 years of age and I will be 52 In Sep. For me it's about today as my tomorrows are limited, if history holds true.

Paladin06, I bought my first Challenger (a 1970) in 1974 (18 years old) -- mainly because I was waiting till I considered one to be affordable. I fully intend to wait till the new Challengers are what I consider affordable. With age, my friend, comes even more patience.

Back in the mid 70's when I was in High School. (God that is so so long ago even though it seems like yesterday).. I was not allowed to have a muscle car. So the inclination to have one, well I didn't dwell on it. My dad cosigned a 4 door twin spider corvair monza (1966) It blew smoke out the ass end. It wasn't what I wanted but it was mine.. I do wish though I had it now..

As I aged, I got the taste for what I missed. I always liked them all, except Mustangs. I did love the 69 Judge, I liked the Charger, and Challenger as well come to think of it..hell I loved em all. I could have had a 70 plum Cuda convertible from a buddy in school my dad said NO. Fast forward 30 years..........Pontiac introduces the 2004 GTO. I went to an open house, and was a bit disappointed so I did not purchase it. 2005 brought a little more aggressive look. I test drove an 04 thinking the 05 will have a little more guts... That's all it took. I ordered it with the full body kit figuring I'd have what not many have with the kit. The kits are no longer available and the prices of those parts are fetching 3 times the cost of them originally......Finally I got a muscle car. Not quite retro enough for me on the exterior but non the less it was retro enough where it counted, under the hood. Car and Driver gave it a thumbs down.. Big deal.... With a Corvette motor and drive train, well, it hauls ass. Now the Challenger..... Gotta say don't much care for the Charger.

I am making up for lost time...... I had seen concept pics of the Chevelle SS, That never paned out, That was HOT looking, the concept pic of the Charger was redesigned... or I may have opted for that if it were built like the pic. I saw a concept pic of a trans am... That looked sweet but will not be built......

I am anxiously awaiting the Challenger to hit..... Orange, black with the black 70' style spoiler on the back.,,,, I missed out the first time...... not this time. I just hope it ain't priced out of reach.

i think that only the srt08's will be marked up pretty high rt's and v6 might have a tiny markup if any. most of the real hardcore enmthusiasts are going for the big srt. ill be more than happy with a base v-8 manual R/T. even more happy not to overpay because of markup

I had my Ram in for service, so I stopped by the showroom and asked who the authority was on the 08 Challenger. I was pointed in the direction of a mid 40-ish salesman. I asked him if they were taking deposits, and he said no that they were taking names though, and if I wanted to be #2 on the list, I could be. I said sign me up! He told me that I would be contacted when they are allowed to start ordering, possibly Sept./Oct., with a spring delivery. He asked me if there was anything in particular I wanted. I said no, but there are 2 things I will not accept. First, I will not buy an automatic, and second, I will not pay one penny over invoice. He said that neither would be a problem, that the 08 will not come with an automatic. He also said that they don't play the mark-up game, they are also a Ford dealer, and didn't do any of that with the Mustangs and Shelby Cobras. He was not sure if it will have a 5.7 or a 6.1, or possibly a 6.4. If I heard him right, he said 08 may be the last year for the 6.1? May be something else to add to the rumor list, I don't know, time will tell.

It is refreshing to see that some dealers will not try to charge over MSRP.

I, however, question the news about 2008 being the last year for the 6.1. On another website, a "well-connected" member posted the following:

"Just received word that the SRT team will be updating the 6.1L SRT8 engine with MDS!! This is a feature that seemed like it would not make it to the SRT engines due to some technical stumbling blocks, but it looks like that has been overcome. I am not sure if the 6.1 MDS will make it to some of the 2008 models or if it will be held off until model year 2009. There is some indication that it is coming sooner than later...

In other engine news, there will be another new 6.1 variant that from what I saw is spec'd for the Challenger only. Neither MDS nor VCT was listed so I am not sure exactly what this is..."

It was also reported that the horsepower of the 6.1 will be increase from 425 to 435 hp, probably due to exhaust changes."

Talked with a few salesman and some people who have spoke with other dealerships, sorry, but the 15 to 20k markup would be on the low side, I'm hearing 20 to 30k over MSRP!

Chevy plans on building 100,000 Camaros. With that amount of cars, I'm sure there will be little or N O markups. Dodge can keep their challengers!!!!!!!!!!

Anyone check the other markets? You know like Australia or anything like that to see if the Challenger is already out? I mean the GTO was out in 02 and then they brought it to the American market detuned. It was an HSV GTO/GTS. I'm sure there is no Challenger out there by another name in another market, but wouldn't that be nice? It would probably be cheaper to import it like the GTO then get ripped off, or better than just sitting around and waiting. Of course we would have to get use to sitting in the passenger seat to drive it. Driving a stick with my left hand, just to strange.

Since the above is really not an option, I may try to get it under MSRP, or at, if there is no deal there, then I will definitely wait. I have no problem having first year people get out all the bugs and maybe get better things down the road, not to mention the DC Rewards discount, though I'm sure that will be later down the road. I know the 05-06 Mustang had a stock radio that just sucked, didn't fit with the car at all. When I got my 07 I was just blown away that they actually put a stock stereo in the car that actually fit with the car, had a little oomph to it rather then just flat and weak.

Friday July 13 I took a drive to the Dodge Dealer I plan on doing with business with. I went in for an update, and as I would have expected it, the young kid who took my name and put me on the list for upcoming information quit.

The salesman I talked to put me on his list. I asked him if they are taking deposits. He said yes. He tells me they will take a 1,000 dollar deposit. I asked if it's refundable he says yes. I am told they have 3 deposits thus far. Putting a deposit down will assure you one when they come out. I was asked if I'd like to put a deposit on one, I told him no. Been there done that with my GTO. Told him I will opt to wait. I further told him I will not pay a mark up. He tells me and reassures me....."This dealer doesn't play that game." I told him yea ye yea until they are on the market then you will... Again he reassured me the dealer will not mark them up. We chatted a bit more and I asked him if 35-40K was a fair guess on price and he tells me he thinks so, but again, the dealer still has not heard anything concrete on the car yet...So the wait continues.
